Thread damage on #4 Cylinder

I posted this on the 930 section but I guess it should be here for more help... I can't believe what has happened... I did a full tune up and when I tried to install the #4 spark plug I could only get it to turn 3-4 turns and it just get real tight. I did all of the other one by hand first and then tighten them down with a ratchet with no problem.

My question is has anyone used this http://www.back-tap.com/ on the #4 cylinder? I need to know if it will fit being 6" long.

PM Johnny Walker, he should have a solution to your problem. Not a common repair, but not something to worry about either. Worst case scenario is pulling the #4 head and repairing it on the bench. 6-7 hours labor including the engine drop. You may get away with chasing the threads.

God, this brings back bad memories...had just purchased a 89 Coupe, had 112K on it..engine had rebuild (top and bottom) at 95K (?)

Went to tune her up about 3 months or so later,..only to find that #1 plug would NOT come out for me...appears have been cross-threaded on the last install (P.O..'s wrench)..not sure what the problem was,...when I had brake work done by my P-wrench, 2 of his mechanics couldn't get it out either, trying every trick in the book. These guys could have easily SNAPPED this thing OFF (damage) yet the car was delivered in FULLY workable condition after their failed attempt,..they've my respect just for NOT inducing an immediate failure by being a GORRILLA with it!!! (Robert's Automotive/Bolingbroke GA...James definately knows his stuff on these cars...got my vote) Inanycase, she's running fine for now,...yet I know I'll have to drop the frikin' engine to make this right...(confirmed by my P-wrench).

A real pisser 4 sure............

Best and good luck with it....

...here comes the "while you're in there" thing.........
