Phoenix emmision testing
I'll be moving to Phoenix soon. What options do I have to get a registration for my non-CAT 911?
thanks |

Lucky you! Just in time for summer!
What year? 65/66 won't require testing. All others will need the original emissions components in place to pass. If you use it on a limited basis you can get a collector's policy and skirt the emissions testing. |

emissions
Arizona is rather strict as opposed to other states. They are getting more astute as far as what equipment should and shouldn't be on the car.
Any vehicle 67 or later requires emission testing. If you want to go with collector car status you simply call your insurance agent to see if they offer it. Many don't but they will give you rates with those who do. It is up to the insurance company to decide if your car is collector status. The American collector car insurance company is one such company. Liability insurance for collector car will run about $90 bucks a year. The restrictions are : the car must be kept in a garage. Not to be driven in rush hour traffic. Must not be your sole vehicle for transportation. Must not be driven more than 2500 miles a year. |

I have a '86 911 Turbo with no Cat and a '03 996TT with stock exhaust. So, I'm wondering what I can do with the '86.
Sounds like I can designate it as a collector car and limit the annual miles. Is there an audit process to verify mileage on Arizona collector cars? Thanks |

rickster2, I have had collector car ins. for the past 3 years and have never had to verify my mileage. This is something the ins. company will monitor not the state.
Although it is true your car would be exempt from emmisions testing in the future (once collector ins. is established), I am not sure if it can be exempt before you claim residency. No Cat. Is this a track car? We have a pretty good track season (in the winter) around here. Welcome to Phoenix.

I have a cat section that will bolt onto your turbo for testing if you want to go that route.

My car had the Cat removed prior to my ownership. I primarily drive on the street and do some DE. I'll do the same in AZ if I can get the collector insurance coverage.
I was considering removing the CAT from my '03 turbo but won't given the emission testing in AZ. Thanks for all the good info. |
