Couple of questions about timing chain tensioners
1. How do you tell if your car has had the Carrera chain tensioner upgrade done? I believe the casings are different, but I don't know how.
2. If you have the original chain tensioners is there any warning if they're going to go? I ask as I was under my 2.8 earlier and noticed there was quite a lot of noise coming from the two casings. Not noticable above the car, but noticable down underneath and it seemed noisier than my 2.2 (which I don't believe has had the upgrade, but can't be sure). Thanks in advance Adam |

if you have the carrera chain tensioners, they are hydraulic
wich means there ought to be an oil feed line coming down from the cam oil line... failing tensioners would give a rattling noise, best heard at around 2000 rpm

This thread has pictures of the left and right side cam covers. If you've got tensioners installed, you'll see same style oil lines.

What's the general opinion about the 930 tensioners with the safety collars as an alternative to the carrera oil fed type?

general opinion is the hydraulic ones are still better
very few instances of them failing (other then some reports of 1 bad batch that failed brand new, which is the exception to the rule), they don't require much checking , oil pressure=chain tension, and still have the spring inside them , so it's a dual system....
