Please except my gratitude for this thread. I've wanted to do this for years.

My contribution:

I picked up a bumper ($40), bumper shocks($20), and some other parts off of a local Craigslist add with the express purpose of doing the bumperette delete mod.

Will be welding all unneeded holes.

Next step will be getting all new rubber (so I can stick them in Ronnie's face)...

After that will be picking up a set of these:

RSR Replica License Plate Lamp(s)

Then it's off to paint so that it's all ready to go when the old bumper comes off.

If you are getting a bumper to modify why in the world would you want to retain the rubber strips? Why not go all the way and make the whole thing smooth (and less goofy)? BTW: what does the interior shot, as nice as it is, have to do with bumper modification?

I included the shot of my interior just to piss you off.

To your first question.... I'll retain the rubber because I like it first and foremost, but because it makes for a much simpler mod. To include deleting the rubber I'd have to also weld mounting studs to the inside of the bumper. . . That, and the fact that the bumper I picked up has the funny indentations under the rubber that would really stand out or need to be filled.

Any more questions?

Saw the thread and couldn't resist, I've been waiting a long time for this.
I bought this rear bumper over 20 years ago for the " Old Sled " and I'm
finally getting ready to install. It took a little time to figure how I was
going to keep the Turbo and exhaust from burning up my (new/old) bumper.

This exhaust set up puts out some serious heat:

Lined the inside of the bumper with Thermo Tech 3000 degree mat:

Set it in place and I think it's going to look great and get rid of some heat.

And of course not being able to leave anything alone we chopped up a
perfectly good front bumper, enlarged and screened the inlets, glassed in
the brake ducts, and glassed up a bit of a lip for it.

All that was left was some rockers and I couldn't find anything I liked so we just made our own. Not quite finished but this is a final fit before we trim the ends and we can get them painted.

Thanks Mate !!!!!

I was looking for a little different look. Love the big flare 934 stuff but there are getting to be a lot of them. I was trying to find something different so I'm leaning toward the 964 Turbo S LM Hans Stuck raced.
Good combination of old school and new school and it still has the old 935 wing I need for my new IC.

Congrats on taking the plunge. You'll be surprised how much it "tightens" the look of the rear of the car. Additionally, thanks for the link for the license plate lights. That price is even better than our host's.

Are you sure about pricing? It seemed to me TRE was up-charging by about $50.00 for the black paint. If Wayne has it in black for less, I'm all in.

This is to help airflow over my cooler. It helps a lot. I like it better than senseless fogs.

OK, looked around for the light at TRE and it is not overpriced for the "correct" light.

...anyone ever looked at this Hella light that comes in black and isn't all that different:

Hella - 1386 License Plate Lamp 001386241 -

I'm thinking for guys on tight budgets like me this would work.

The lights people use is the same as was used by the factory team to illuminate race numbers back in the day. It is the same license plate light used by BMW 2002's.

Ok. Nevermind. The price is per light, not for both. Our host's price is much better. I'd buy the 2002 lights and paint them. Or have them powder coated, can't cost more than the difference.

I can't get to the other shots until next week. It started out as a stock RS 11" wide bumper, I don't know who made it. The p.o. had cut the lower section off back to the curves. I re-glassed it and shaped it around one of my mufflers.

Finally finished the euro bumperette install

Not that anyone other than me has known of this skunkworks project.
I think I started this in July (this year)
I wanted the four holes to disappear so I filled them with moldable epoxy.
Since the paint on the horizontal (top) of the bumper was perfect, I wanted to keep that so I masked off the top portion. The middle part between bumperettes I masked and blended the paint at the apex between vertical and horizontal.
I also painted the valence which needed a refresh. Came out great but no one can really see it under there.
I wanted to keep a semblance of oem originality and so I lucked in to a set of euro bumperettes for a C note. A smooth all white bumper would look cool, but would have been a lot more work to fill and smooth out the holes and then I'd have to add some lighting and it wouldn't be oem.
You can see that the euro solution does not really do much for lighting the plate.
New Grand Prix White is a bit whiter than 37 year old GP white, but it will not be noticed by the general public.
All and all, I'd give it an A- for a rattle can job.
I learned that painting is all about prep and buff out.
I learned that 911's have a definite sequence of dis-assembly and assembly.
Anyway, it was a long process. Next up is the removal of remaining AC parts.
Thanks for listen'n

lookin GOOD Mr. Baloney! Well done.

Thanks for the link here, it's a stroll down mammory lane! Whatup Ronnie / Cole / Jerry / etc.!??

Ronnie... funny... I think the Double D Mastectomy looks kinda silly SANS the rubber strips. REMEMBER... opinions are like Aholes... and I don't wanna see yours 8-).

I dig having the black strips, ties in w/ the rest of the car's rubberbits and offers a bit 'o contrast. In contrast, the smooth look - to me - looks a bit out of character / place on a car w/ otherwise so much other rubberbits. Also looks out of 'period'... too smooth / color coded kindasorta looks a bit too modernish on an otherwise old school motif'd car.

Wholeheartedly agree w/ ditching the 18lbs 'o pendulum off the rearmostest part of the car... um, duh? I love me some tig bitties, but not on my rear bumper.

Here's a shot of my iteration of such:

I just filled the holes w/ some hardware store plugs and painted them. Looked great IMO. Car resides in Toronto now tho 8-)...

I'll close with... surprised @ the pissing match seen ^here^... very un-Pelicanlike IMO... go figger.

I'll further close with... beware Balogna! His Baloney has a First Name, it's M_A_P_H_O_N_E_Y_... 8-)

On board. Like it and think it's time my red 911 get's rid of the Brazilion ass mass.
