No more than an hour.

Well I had kind of figured my 1-2 shift was "just the way a 915 shifts", but I have to go try this out tonight. Max. how long did it take you? Does not sound like a long job if everything is handy.

About 20 Minutes, and half of that was trying to decide whether to do it with the seat pushed all the way forward, or all the way back! ;>))
Actually, I wound up moving the Driver's seat as needed to get to each of the work areas!

Did this to my 83 tonight before leaving work. Followed the procedure discussed previously in this thread. Has helped my 1-2 and 3-2 shift a lot. I need to do it one more time though as I am borderline on the 5-4 shift "nicking" reverse now...

Thanks for this info - a BIG help guys...

I was rereading the Bob Tindell writeup and wondered about something that was mentioned from the factory instructions. It said to ensure that there was sufficient shift rod fed into the coupler. Is there any kind of minimum spec on this? The car seems to be shifting a lot better and easier into 2nd now, but I wanted to make sure I did not miss something there...

Thanks

I just tried another shifter improvement. Replacing the ball cup and shift rod bushings--> HUGE difference! I'll do a write up on a new thread.

Shift Coupler Adjustment

Thank you john walker's workshop for your simple and clear shift coupler adjustment procedure. One more example of the usefulness of the forum search function.

Shifter (Coupler) Adjustment Procedure

Just wanted to remind everyone there's a great Procedure in the WSM. Here's a image showing it - it's on p 578 of the 72-84 Shop manual.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1581786071.jpg
