can't get my 78 3.0 to start

coil went bad (leaking silver) replaced it, had the cd box and new coil checked they work, replaced the green wire to the distrib. still won't start

I can get it to back fire if I keep cranking on it. getting fuel

what else?

make sure pop-off valve has not "popped off".. mine did a couple of years ago > $120 tow job home > I get it into my garage > open the air cleaner box > pop -off valve laying on its side > I re-seat > and it starts right up.. co$$tly lesson

Put a timing light on it and see if you get spark. That should at least tell you which direction to start looking.

Remember that the distributor in a 3.0 turns counter clockwise - are your distributor cap wires on correctly?

also, if you smell gas, you might be flooding if the cold start valve is stuck open.

Ok, well this was a good one. The good news is that it is fixed. the tab on the distrib cap broke off so it moved on off TDC....everytime I adj. the distrib it would get more off.

Thanks for everyone's help, I have good info for those who put 3.0's in earlier cars, the green wire to the CD box can be updated to Plug and Play.
