Metric to English Conversion
For clutch cable replacement, what is the conversion between an inch and a millimeter?
Thanks, David

So is 1 mm about 75% of 1/16"
How the heck do I measure between a 1mm and 1.2mm? Before I put on the cable, I am suppose to set the gap on the adjusting screw to 1.2mm and then go down to 1mm. I have a ruler but that is about it. Any advice? Thanks, David

download this to your desktop and you'll never have to ask about any conversions.

If you know the pitch of the tread, you can calculate how many turns will get you there.

too much ado about that particular gap. you just need some freeplay there is all. the less the better, as long as there is always some play. it closes up as the disc wears and needs to be checked every now and then.

Delpico,
1mm = .03937 inches 1.2mm = .04724 inches 1/16 " = .0625 inches so if all you have is a ruler divided into 1/16 " increments 1mm = approx 60% of 1/16" 1.2mm = approx 75% of 1/16"

The man from Griffiths technical once said,
"She was 25.4 years old, she was a doll." I have never forgotten it!

1mm/25.4 = 0.039" 1.5mm/25.4 = 0.047" As J.Walker suggests, not that critical in the clutch free play department. Sherwood |

1mm = 0.039370078" on-ramp, We're measuring clutch free play, not oil clearance. Rounding off to the nearest tenth of an inch would have been more than sufficient. In addition, few feeler gauges are marked (or available) to the 5th place. Sherwood |

Then, of course, there's the whole matter of significant digits...
