Do I need psychiatric help?
I finished most of the rebuilding of my 911T, which took me about a year.
here is what I started with... Nearing last stages of 911T and here is where I am now: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() So, I ask you, am I alone in sneaking out of my house in the wee hours of the morning to enjoy the roads with fewer obstacles (other cars that is)? Am I alone in spending 10 hours re-wiring something that I could pay someone else to do in a quarter of the time? Am I alone in attempting to find original parts for the car when new "non-original" pieces are readily available? Am I alone in correcting peoples pronunciation of the word "porsche"? Am I wrong in having my 20 month old hand me my tools when working on the car? My wife thinks this is erratic and at times worrisome behavior. I think it is a rare illness, probably genetically linked to the Y chromosome that is shared by many members of this community. I welcome your thoughts and comments. |

Nope, sounds perfectly rational to me...
![]() The only thing I would have done differently is have the wheels refinished while the car was down. I think silver anodized spokes and lips look great on longhoods!! (later models too though...) Looks great - and it's very cool to see another early 911 get the attention it deserves! Now get out there and drive it like the good doctor intended! Later, Mike

I can't understand why you might think that you have any sort of a "condtion" thay requires medical attention. Your behavior within this venue is the norm. And while your wife may think that your behavior is "erratic", I know from experience that she's EXTREMELY forgiving, understanding, and generous with funds. Great job!!
Steve

You are not alone.
We should start a support group. . . for our wives. Tom PS: Nice car - I like that you changed out the mirrors and went back to the chrome trim and headlight rings.

My told me yesterday while we were driving to pick up a rollbar for my 911 (then off to a "family dinner") that several of her friends have told her that they think I have an unhealthy obsession with my car. She's commented many times in the past that she feels the same way.
You're not alone. I'm willing to bet that at least 40 percent of the guys on this board share the same commitment to their Porsche. The T looks amazing! Great work, Matt

Stunning car!
You are describing the typical signs of VPPS. Nothing to worry about. * VPPS : Vintage Porsche Passion Syndrome

That is stunning - what a great job! I'm envious of the time and money you've put into the car. Judging by the pics, you started with a car that was by all means presentable, though the rear needed to be returned to original, but not a bad car altogether. What you have now is just amazing, and puts my 72 to shame!

Holy Crap that's a gorgeous car! I've only been a Porsche owner for a year but have dropped 20K into my SC in the past ten months and yes... it's an addiction... I believe hobbies are supposed to be addictive though and what a great one!
My wife of just over a year is definitely not a fan of the car... it takes constant reassuring!

Welcome to the dark side. When your friends/family/girlfriend/wife/neighbors look for you first in the garage, regardless of the hour, you can consider yourself terminal.
The only useful therapy is purchasing more stuff and attaching it to your Porsche. Among the common symptoms are being discovered in your basement shop rebuilding brake calipers at 5 in the morning when you couldn't get back to sleep. There is no known cure, but the hoarding of spare parts arranged neatly on a shelf seems to help those with the affliction. Regards,

So hiding the new parts I purchased in the trunk of my daily driver is then "normal"?
Having a separate visa card for p-parts is "normal"? Spending excessive amounts of time to track down a fiberglass targa top, driving across the province just to find out it sold, only to repeat the same behavior if another one pops up is "normal"? IF YES, I REALLY REALLY FEEL MUCH BETTER. |
