Ever replaced the engine/trans and forgot to:

Make sure the clutch fork engages the T/O bearing

I am getting very good at R/R!

I even used spade terminals last install just in case!

BTDT. Kept adjusting the cable until I got action. The "action" was the fork bending itself against the transmission housing. Why can't the Germans just use a "push" pressure plate like everyone else. Who ever heard of pulling a TOB?

And on a related note, has anyone dealt with the clutch in a Rabbit. Goofiest thing in the history of motoring.

I can boast of never having failed to place the ring gear on the new PP.

BTDT Filled with oil and ready to go... or so I thought. I think an engine and transmission reinstall should go as follows:
1 Mate engine and transmission
2 Place in car
3 connect clutch cable
4 test for operation
5 If clutch pedal works, continue, if not go back to 1

Otherwise you'll spend a ton of time disconnecting stuff. That was such a buzz kill!

No, but I did mangage to put one in without the flywheel ring rear. zzziiiiiiiiing , followed by some choice words. Dont sweat it, we all make mistakes. I was in a hurry trying to make an auto cross the next day, that is why one should never rush.

I thought i was taking my time! Took a week to replace the flywheel seal

It is my neighbors fault, he came over with his kid to talk. He really wants to buy one, but his wife says no. He comes over when the doors are open to see what it's like and get his dose of oil, gas smells!
