3.2 tach fixed / speed position sensor
Hi, I wanted to share my experience with my dead '84 3.2. The tachometer was always kind of "off" - working sometimes, not working other times, displaying maybe 1/3 the real RPM at other times.... This had gone on for almost 2 years (the car ran fine) and then one day the engine wouldn't start. Luckily it had failed in my garage of all places. It had ran fine, I parked it and 2 weeks later it wouldn't start. I tracked it down to a bad speed reference sensor (open where there should have been 1K ohms). After replacing the sensor my tachometer has been working perfectly. I suppose my "off" tachometer could have been warning me of my impending breakdown? The tip of the bad sensor was magnetic and had small metal particles stuck to it FWIW
