AC questions
I recently converted the AC in my 84 911 carrera to 134a. I used a lot of advice from people on this forum. Thanks to Jim Simms and others. after my conversion ( i bought this car in April so i didnt know anything about the air conditioner) the compressor would kick on. i could hot wire to it and then it would work and start to cool. I then tore into the electronics and found that the temp knob didnt have the line going to the evaporator temperature probe. obviously that was the problem. I hot wired accross this connector and the compressor will now come on when I turn the fan on. My question is what risk do i now pose by using the air conditioner in this manner? the compressor will run the whole time.
The other question i have is i would like to hook up an electric fan to my condensor in the back but i dont know where to find one. could anyone help? The smallest my local AC shop has is a 9 inch which seems too big. does anyone have experience with this? thanks.

The evaporator will freeze up (ice) and not cool. You'll have to shut it off until it melts.

Do not run your system this way, as you run the risk of over pressuring the high side and damaging the condenser(s) and compressor or blowing a hose. There is nothing to shutdown the compressor unless you added a high pressure shutoff switch to your system (such a switch typically wasn't stock for your year and model.) Replace the thermostat switch; they are not that expensive. 911-613-121-01-M145 $46.50 Last edited by Jim Sims; 06-21-2007 at 04:43 PM.. |
