It isn't a RS but what do you think?
I like the RS emblem so I was thinking about adding it to my car. Seems fitting enough. The "problem" is I have a real Porsche Carrera RS metal emblem and the older style Carrera RS decals.
I like the metal one but can't decide where to put it. The decals originally came on the ducks. That would go on the vertical section high right corner. The metal one came on the 964 RS and was set in the middle of the rear lid. My body guy and I originally thought it looked good bottom right had corner of the duck lid. What do you think? Going on this car. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1161256672.jpg |
An out-of-left-field opinion: I think that car would look great with a decal scheme that evoked the IROC look more than the older Carrera RS look.
They were originally delivered with ducktails. http://www.qv500.com/porsche%20911%2027%20p9%206.jpg |
Your car is an original, clean work of motoring art. Keep it that way. Adding unnecessary signage? Might as well put the rain gutters back on. ;)
|
Sandy you're killing me here :D Pretty much what everyone has said in the past.
Thanks Jack. I have often thought about doing just that with red script. But three decals all saying Porsche seems a bit much. But the decals can really change the look on the cars. Guess I should do a photo shop. Here is what I am thinking of doing. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1182808234.jpg |
This car is unique and is the prototype "Less is more".
Bob |
red decals on that car? you must be color blind :D
if any at all, go silver... |
Hate to agree wit stooopid...but yeah.....silver.
Oh yeah....carrera RS high and to the right. |
Leave it naked.
|
Ummm, I'm a decal hater. Less is more. let 'em wonder!
|
Your car isnt an RS replica. Its closer to the 1st IROC cars and more of an interpretation of the overall Porsche racing Mantra. I would think about your desire to build this car and what you chose to do. You could have made an RS replica but chose to add pieces from many P-car greats. Its as much "R" as "RS" and more "IROC" than all.
I dont think RS is fitting. My .02 |
Original decal on the right side and a Nurburgring decal on the left side. See picture of my car.

What's nice about vinyl....you're not married to it. It can be stripped off and left nekkid or redone in another color.....
|
If it were my car, I'd ditch the rear reflector and run it with the vent holes along that panel.
The reflector seem very at-odds with R taillights, IMO. Oh, and I'm probably with Jack O. on the decal thing. |
MHO. If it isn't an RS, RSR or IROC 911, don't badge it as such.
YMMV, Sherwood |
I think it looks good the way you have it with new metal on there!
|
i like the decal, i would go white on your car but maybe gold would work with the interior color. don't you have the decal version of the porsche crest on the trunk lid?

Beautiful car, leave it as it is! (IMHO...)

RDane? You wouldn't like my opinion. But hey, opinions are like belly buttons. Everybody has one..

I think it totally sucks man!!

Time to build another car, if you are down to wondering about decals! Personally, I am a big badge delete fan and voted for no badge.
George |
How about the emblem that came on the car from the factory ?
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1182823721.gif |
I voted No RS, because it isn't. BUT I am a fan of graphics. I have the same set up and wanted side stripes, but the "porsche" on the IROC was way too big. I'm going with my own interpretation on the triple side stripe. It is a mix of 914/early rs/rsr. And don't listen the color police. If I told you guys what color I am doing, everyone will say I am crazy. Next sunday I should have them on.
Like said before, best thing about vinyl is it comes off! |
I mean... having trouble selling this car? Even after it appeared in EXCELLENCE? Different strokes...maybe not everybody agrees with your strokes of what rhe "perfect" hot rod 911 is. You might contact "ED" at excellence, he who gave such a glowing report on your car...perhaps he'd like to put his personal money on the line? ;)

dude, one of these in a silver would be hot and appropriate...

WILSON . . . That is Soooo WRONG.
Don't you know that the "R" has to be Red? Sheesh. . . a Black "R" ... why that is completely phoney and pretentious. For the gawd given purity of the look like so: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1182829627.jpg And btw, the placement of a faux sticker is serious technical stuff. oh wait, is my sarcasm showing again? :D I'm kidding of course . .. the black "R" looks just right. |
How about this?
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1182831053.jpg Okay... only kidding around!!! :D |

Spent the last week fixing other peeps fuch ups.....everything is done now so I FEEL GOOOOD...... Now....let's get this guy's ride worked out..... How about "ghost" side scripts????? I did a set that did a fade from front to back...... Oh and you Type R weenies...don't quit yer day job..... |
is this machine for sale.. huh?
|
i would like you to go one step farther.
take off the duck... get a cleaner profile, then just say 911 (subscript) R.... thats more the theme of your car IMO... |

Respraying some paint chips next week so I might do a IROC tail while the paint is mixed up. Liked Tyson's idea of pulling the rear reflector though. No need for a "grill" back there as I get plenty of cooling as is. But cool idea as well. Great input guys, thanks and keep them coming. |
Your car looks great the way it is. You already are pushing it with the "vanity plate" so leave it alone. The thing I like about your car is that it is understated.
This reminds me of another thread from a guy in washington wondering what moniker he should affix to his car.... :) :) (over in the turbo forum) Cheers |

Naked.
But if some kind of decal was prescribed I would probably use the black plastic 'RS' emblem from the 964 and put it smack dab centered on the rear lid. |
Send me the car, I will evaluate performane versus esthetics for the next 12-24 months and return with some tasteful badging in the appropriate places.
|
i'd say leave the duck, put the rs badge where you want it (in the lower corner) and ditch the reflector for some vents...they would really play off the R lights
Gray |
well... i believe you might be mistaken about taking off the duck would send you all over the road.
my car had a front spoiler and a turbo tail... i took off the tail and found very little change, however if anything was noticeable it was that the nose was down a little more, which is actually confidance inspiring... but seriosuly... I would pull off the reflector, drill some circles and add some mesh behind them, take off the deckild, add the same meshing into the grill location, and centered under the lid have a 911 subscript R, probably with a colour change, ie 911 in black with the R is silver... - very nice car, not trying to be offensive with my opinions in any way... just stating what i would do to make that car a little cleaner IMO...it is already very clean.SmileWavy |
