Is something missing here?

I got this back from a shop a couple weeks ago and was checking under the lid today, it looks like something, a cover, is missing but I can't remember if there was something there and if so, what it looked like. I just looks like it should have been covered and I don't remember seeing it so open. I can't find a picture in any of my book that shows that area, so, what do you think?

There is a plastic cover that goes over that area.

Not sure what year you have 84-89? But here is a link to a diagram that shows the cover for 87-89. Part number is oem-91161010504

Why am I not surprised that the shop left something off?

Thanks, it is an 89 and I will go in Monday and check on it, the area just looked so different and I wanted to be sure before I go back.

Not sure if your car has ie before you bring it in but there should be a black plastic cover there to cover the whole area (big). The little square red bracket you see in your pic is where the top bolt mount to.

Be careful to avoid grounding the fuses, until you get the cover back on.

You can tell that the cover hasn't been missing for long due to how clean that area is.

BTW what kind of work was the shop doing that they needed to take the cover off in the first place?

The idle would surge, go up to 2500 and stay, I could flip the throttle and sometimes it would drop, sometimes not. Sometimes it would die at a stop, it is missing the cover but the idle stays constant. So, I don't know enough to know why the cover is off.

It's likely they took the cover off to get some power for a timing light or engine analyzer.

They would have probably had to jumper the ICV in order to test/diagnose/adjust the idle.

The black rubber circular port in the metal panel right in front of the ignition coil is what they would have been accessing.

Makes you worry though if they missed something that obvious what else may they have forgotten.

Make sure you'll also get the 2 wing bolts along with the cover.
Don't let them jamm sheetmetal screws in there!
