Anything to put around K&N's to make them filter more?
I hate that my car has K&N dirt injection filters. I wish they made a paper filter that would work under those rain hats. Do you guys know of anything that is made to place around the filters to help restrict airflow a bit. I would love to have a bit more richening out of the mixture along with better filtration. Thanks.

They filter well if you keep them clean & properly oiled.

If you're desperate for a K&N alternative, once upon a time, I cut and reglued some Amsoil foam filters to fit. ![]() Sherwood |

I realize that threads about K&N filters, the Cool Collar and the "best" oil make up about half the threads here but - at the risk of being clobbered by the filter elite - here is what PCA tech editor Tom Charlesworth said in response to the question "[w]ould you recommend using a K&N type air filter":
"K&N makes a very good filter; I use them on my own car." Up-Fixin der Porsche , Volume 11, page 265 (1998). I figure that old Charlesworth has way more experience in these matters than I do and since my experience has been the same as Bill's, I'm giving a +1 for Quote:

I agree that if properly cleaned and oiled, they work just fine.

filters
If you are really bent on something other than K&N then you need to check out ITG and BMC. They make tons of filters and if you cant find it on their site simply call them up.

simple cheap(dependent on woman) fix..........cut a pair of nylon hosiery and place over filter. k & n makes a wrap also. less cleaning and mimimal(here come the filter elite scientists) air flow restriction. when they get dirty oily.........just get into another womans pants and grab another pair she forgets in the morning running out the door..........after a wonderful evening dinner date. |

I might be old school but I test a filter by holding it upto a light source. K&N fails, their marketing department passes though.

some say that the only true test is on a vibrating engine where the oil droplets get atomized. i test by wiping a clean finger or white paper towel inside looking for dirt. forget the eyeball test imo
