Front bushing replacement.....tips

I'm finishing up the ER front bushing upgrade, and used a few simplifications - thought I'd see if they are common knowledge:
1) set the wheel hub on a jack stand and don't bother taking the brakes apart, etc. The strut / hub will stay in place pretty well, and you can move it up/down as needed with your knees.
2) the trick to dropping the ball joint pin out of the strut is to keep the pin aligned. I used a ~20" woodworking 'C'clamp (vice grip type) to pull the rotor toward the center of the car, hooking it to the strap that locates the stone guard and sway bar mount. After alignment, the pin glides right out. (wish I'd figured that out a bit earlier - thus the post)
