Targa Experts: Do I have the wrong roll bar seal?
Hi All,
I've got an '84 targa and I'm in the process of sorting out all my targa seals, thanks to Dan we should be sorted with regards to the front seal. But I've also got a question about the rear rollbar seal. See these photos: ![]() ![]() As you can see my seal doesn't appear to be quite right as its causing the side seals to squash up and buckle. Although I can't quite show it in the first photo with the top off, the area I've circled in red seems to "thick" and that stops the roof fully sliding back over the seal. Also the verticle section of the seal that the door glass mates up to seems too high and again makes the side seal buckle. What do you think, could I have the wrong rollbar seal, ie the 86-89 as apposed to the -85 seal? Could someone with a -85 targa possibly post a pic of their seal? Thanks in advance, Jon |

I think the side seals are no longer the correct size and need to be be trimmed to fit.

I saw a Porsche publication that is a factory training manual on Ebay last night that was for Targa only.

Your roll bar seal looks right. It may be that the side seals are not right, I think they must be trimmed to fit correctly.
If you will send me your email I will send a copy of a Porsche manual that may help you with the problem

Cheers for all the advice guys, tonight I plucked up the courage and put the side seals under the knife. I'm really happy with the results. See the below pic, the seal no longer buckles, the whole roof sits slightly further back towards the roll bar and therefore the front of the roof is sitting lower. Once again, thanks to this forum, yet another problem sorted!
