Hello!
On my '78 Targa; I believe I'm running Fuchs 6x16 fronts, and 7x16 rears. My question is: What other sizes can I go with in the front, without rubbing or installing spacers? Or looking outright wrong... Where this is coming from is...there was this 911 coupe with what seemed to me to be running 7x16's in the front "and" the rear. I thought it looked nice with the wider fronts (deeper dish); and secondly it would give me the advantage of being able to rotate my tires. Can anyone give me some insights and recommendations? Pros or Cons; what I might be missing? Thanks! Tom ![]()

HI Tom,
I am using 7x16 Fuchs with the stock 205/55/16 tire in the front. I did have my fenders rolled as I did not want rubbing at the track. I had them rolled before I switched so I am not sure how they would have done without rolling. Maybe others have experience. I think you can run 225/50/16 standard rear tires up front on the 7x16s, but you have to have significant negative camber. Hopefully someone that has done this will chime in. I have not been much help have I. ![]() Take Care!

I guess I could move my rear's to the front for a fitment and rub test... I don't plan on lowering the car, thus I'm hoping there is enough room. Let's see if others chime in... Thanks again! Tom

whoops! wrong size on the rear, I meant to type 225/50/16, not 255!
Sorry. oh, my car is lowered to Euro height. If at standard US height for a 79SC, maybe ok? Q

I think someone is a little of on sizes. I have 7's and 8's. I run 225/50/16 on the front. On the back I run 245/45/16.
When I ran 6's and 7's I had 205/55/16 and 225/50/16. I had a little rubbing with the 225's up front and had to do a little fender rolling on the drivers side. Any bigger tire than that will probably take more work without rubbing.

Hi Jerry,
What are your camber settings for the front? Thanks! Q

Update:
My current tire sizes are as follows... Front = 205/55/16 Rear = 225/50/16 Are these 6's, 7's and or 8's ??? I'm simply looking for the deeper inset appearance. Unfortunately a wide body project and super deep Fuchs are not in the budget. Thanks! Tom

Although this is not my car; my wheel sizes look identical. I'm wondering if the rear would fit on the front without issues? Does that look like a 16x7 on the rear? 16x8?
Anyhoo....thanks! ![]()

I run 7" Fuchs on the front with 205/55-16 tires. This is the stock rear wheel with the stock front tire.
For all that post on tire sizes..please remember to quote actual tire (brand, model) etc. as there is significant variation in width ( section width and tread width) for each size..as much as 1/2" to 3/4" variation which is all the world in a discussion like this. I also run 7" rears....but with 225/50-26 tires. Recently added 21mm spacers in the rear to more closely mimic 8". Either way, the car runs fine. Tires are Bridgestone S0-2's Wil

And I will keep in mind that its all relative based on variations and my not providing my exact wheel dimensions etc... With that being said though, looking at the photo (assumptively), would you say that the front is a 16x6? And, based on what you have; could I simply pickup a matching 16x7 (like my rear) and install my existing front 205/55 tires? You think I could possibly install the same tire as the rear and get away with it? Then I'd be like you; right? What are your thoughts? Sorry for the confusing paragraph... Thanks! Tom ![]()

If your car is truly like the picture you posted, your fronts are very definitely 6". Look here--> from the picture you posted, the silvery portion of the wheel as you go radially outward from the black center section....this portion appears as a right angle to the rim portion near the tire itself. This defines a 6" Fuchs by looks. In contrast, note that the rear rim in the same picture has this portion somewhat slanted, with the black center spokes more inset...this is a 7" or 8" wheel. By the looks of how "sunk- in" the wheel-well it sits ( not close to the fender lip), I would visually guess this to be a 7" rim.
Yes...you can get a second set of 7" "rears" and mount your existing front tires ( 205/55-16) on them...and mount them on the front. IMHO... I do NOT think a 225 rear tire/ 7"rim will properly fit in front. As noted here, depending on: - tire ( brand/ actual size) - camber - ride height ...even the 205 on 7" can rub. - Wil

Thanks much Wil! This is all great information. I'm have a few leads on some 16x7's (locally I hope); if the the price is right, I'm going to give it a try. I'll let you know how it goes. Mahalo! Tom

If you buy a set, make sure you're getting the real thing and not clones. Real Fuchs have a fox head stamp on the backside of the wheel, plus some ID numbers.
This can get you started--> 16x7 fuchs original finish. very, very nice - Wil

Both numbers in the example post should work for you. The ones ending in .44 is later production, I believe....but same size and offset.

I am currently running 205/50/16 Fuzions on my 7"ers on my S body. They work great for my older, less aggressive driving style and I like that I can rotate them. The smaller dia acts somewhat like a 7:31 r+p to improve acceleration, although there is obviously less rubber on the road than some of the larger sizes mentioned. If you were to do this on your SC you would probably want spacers on the rear.
Whatever tire you use, if you set the rear arch @ the same or just above the rear diameter, then set the front about 5/8" or so lower, you should be good. ![]()
