leakdown procedure using the Pelican/General tester

Anybody using the Pelican or General type dual-gauge leakdown tester. Just need a clarification regarding the procedure. Per my instructions you:
1. Turn the knob counter-clockwise
2. Connect to compressor
3. Screw the adaptor hose into the sparkplug hole.
4. Connect the adaptor hose to the tester (i.e. everything all hooked up)
5. Turn the regulator knob until the test guage reads 0 in the yellow band (I.e. pressurize the cylinder)
6. read leakage.

I've also seen it listed on the BBS to
4. turn the knob clockwise until the gauge reads 0
5.Connect to the sparkplug hole fitting
6. read leakage

Now i'm confusing myself.
