Best way to mount video camera w/o a roll bar

I've got an '87 Carrera that I'm taking to the track on the 28th. I'd like to mount a video camera that I already own (Panasonic DV) but don't know how. The searching I've done here mostly involves people mounting it to a roll bar. Window suction cups don't seem to hold up. My car is completely stock. Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks,

Scott

I made a cross bar that mounts to the stock seat belt mounts on the B pillars. I used it to mount a camera ball mount that the camcorder can screw right in to. I used two pieces of square steel tubing with flat bar I welded onto the ends that I bent to match up with the mounting holes, and then a piece of angle steel in between them for adjustability and the ball mount. I can take a pic if you want. It was pretty simple to fabricate.

Thanks for the suggestions so far. Welding is a little out of my league. I like the tripod idea. I had never even considered that.

In the professional industry..we use an item called a Noga arm.
It is a series of ball joints connected by lightweight bars or tubes.
They attach with either a 1/4-20 or 3/8-16 thread to a firm location and position with a single knob that tightens the whole unit at once.
Very easy to use, sturdy, and can be screwed into any convenient location.

If you have non-standard seats with head rests you can mount the cam to the passenger head rest posts. Pretty easy and you have a great view... provided no one is in the passenger seat I have seen this on some non-Porsche cars... Porsche Sport Seats, obviously, have no posts

Best regards,

Michael

Scott,

Got an Idea...Go to your local metal yard and buy a flat aluminum extrusion (6061 t-4) 2" x .125 (1/8) 6 feet long. Measure your "B" pillar seat belt loop separation dimension (Inside across). Form the ends radially to meet those points, Drill the 7/16 holes to mount on the seat belt loop hardware. Then cut a piece of "L" aluminum extrusion 2"x 2" ~ 4 feet long and attach it to the flat support as a stiffener. Rivet or bolt together and you have a light weight camera support like Zoanas with no welding and much lighter. Just a thought.

Bob
