How to test DME?

I have a DME from a 81 911 parts car. Is there anyway to test it to see if its good, short of finding a running car and plugging it in?

Thanks!

I didn't think they started using DMEs until 1985.

Sure you don't have a CIS lambda controller?

Maybe thats what it is. I'll get a number off the box tonight and post it. I just know its a big Bosch box that was in the back seat.

John:

If the box is from an SC, its the Lambda controller. The first car with a DME was the '84 Carrera.
