3.0 service and coldstart engine & dial problems.
Hi guys,
SPARK & OIL SERVICE With a view to doing my first service on a 3.0 engine. A- HOW DO ACCESS THE NO VISIBLE SET OF SPARK PLUGS. How do you access the bank of plugs on the left , which reside behind the rubber hosing, are they easy to access. B- WHERE's THE OIL SUMP NUT, Is it the 17mm hext nut, near to transmission end of the crankcase (left of the joint) just before where the heat exchangers meet up. On images of other 3.0 911 I've seen pictures of the hex nut on black round plate in the middle of the crank case /disc, which I don't have on mine. COLD -START UP ENGINE & INTRUMENT PROBLEMS : i) ENGINES CUTS OUT TILL WARM: This happens only on a first few minutes of a day's drive (cold start-up), when I deaccelarate to stop the engine cuts out and I'm having to rev the car up to 1000rpm to keep it from cutting out, after few minutes until warm the sympton goes away, how can I remedy this. ii) COLD-STARTUP INSTRUMENT PROBLEM: POINT 1: The instruments also behave quite oddly too, ie the car would rev to about 1200rpm and them drop back down again to 900 (with out stalling), goes away when warm. .. I suppose this is a leak in the exhaust air pipes? POINT 2: Occasionally the rev needle will flick to about 4000rpm (with engine revs) and drop back to true idle reading after one/two minutes... is this an earth lead problem, if so where shall I check? POINT 3: Both the directional green indicator lights on the rev dial comes-on, and remain like that for a about five minutes of the drive , and the oil pressure tach doesn't respond until five minutes into the ride, after five minute the instruments are working fine....is this an earth lead problem? Finally, Where can I find the engine and transmission earth leads ? Any advise would be much appreciated. Regards,
