Nice & fast

couple of issues...

- fix the pic uploader so FireFox users can do this automatically - it now thinks we all have high security or something engaged

- main posts page no longer shows a dot if we have posted on a forum like it used to

- re Off Topic newbie filter:
suggest a little package of do's & don'ts be sent out when a new person registers

Thanks for all you've done!

Who do I gotta sleep with????

I'm with Mikey on this--went to edit my sig file and no more than 5 lines are allowed!?!?!?!?

It must have been different before, since I have 8 lines in my sig file and now I can't edit it without taking 3 of them out...

I don't see a problem with an abbreviated signature line.

Is it really necessary to list all of your cars ??? What next, the color of your socks?, the brand of whitie tities you wear or, maybe the type of wax you use on your cars :) :)

An expanded signature line takes up a lot of room within the server

Joe Bob 09-25-2007 11:35 AM

We had it before....it's useful to others when we post a problem with a specific car.....

cashflyer 09-25-2007 12:30 PM

I agree, Mike, but I think what ljowdy is opposed to is the sig lines that list not only the Porsches but also the Kia Rio the wife owns, the Ford F150 in the back yard on blocks, and the KTM dirt bike in the shed.

If people want their sig line to show what they have experience with that is pertainant to the PPBBS, then stick with listing Porsche cars. Listing all the other cars you have just makes them look like attention whores.

Are you kidding me? Compare the storage space of 3 extra lines of text compared to posting an image. It's insignificant.

Nevertheless, I had no idea people are offended by listing non-Porsche vehicles and consider it arrogant. I will delete mine to avoid being labeled an attention whore. So sorry. Problem solved.

Tom, do what ever makes you happy!!!! Those 3 extra lines, compounded by every member and every time a member submits a post does take up a lot of room.

But like I said, do what ever makes you happy!!!

As far as you statement about people being offended, go back and look for the happy faces, it doesn't really bother me but apparently it does bother some members

I didn't read this entire thread so sorry in advance if this has already been covered. When I hit the "search" button while using my MacBook with Safari, Safari shuts down. Anyone else have this problem?

Early_S_Man 11-04-2007 05:11 AM

Wayne, I noticed about a month ago that my post count lost about 3800, down to below 10,000. It's no big deal, but none of the other bis posters counts seem to have been affected!

Download Firefox. It will solve your problem. It's a better browser more trouble free, better features and it will import all your bookmarks for you. Plus it's free.

Thanks for the tip. One of the Pelican folks contacted me and said that when they installed the new forum software last summer this problem began and that it's a Safari problem. He suggested I get the latest version of Safari so I did and it works fine now.

Odd, that seems to be correct - I did a search on the number of posts, and it came up with 9853?

I still hate that little 'preview' text box that follows my cursor around. Wish I could turn it off. I know, I know, it goes off if you go off to the right...still a pain. Every forum that uses this software has it though.

Mostly....99.9% I love the forum ;)

The only thing that I have not been able to do that previously was very easy, was to track PM. All you had to do before was click on track a message, now, I have still not figured out how to track a message.

There's a bug in Safari - try upgrading to 3.0 - it fixes the problem...

The "search" function (unless I am doing it wrong) requires using the "advanced search" to limit the search to the particular forum where the data may reside. If I am looking for data on a 911 and build the search words in the standard search, I can get 914, 944 and other data. If the search could automatically launch within the forum where it starts that would be helpful.

Also, and not meaning to cause problems or brush up again free expression or whatever, but, a couple of very frequent contributors (that give a fabulous amount of information and depth to the forum) have pictures with their names that I would think might limit your audience and users to males. Agreed that most 911 owners probably are males, but I think that the real benefit of the forum is that it is a resource for any Porsche owner or potential owner, females included. Maybe I overly sensitive (I am active duty military and you've no idea how much "sensitivity training" I have sat through over the years!!!), but simply from a good business standpoint, by keeping the forum "family freindly" you might not scare off a couple of folks who would otherwise be great additions to the Porsche owners circle and users of your website. It doesn't bother me, but I think if I were reading a thread and my girlfriend saw the screen with breasts bouncing up and down, she might not believe I was reading Porsche techincal information... Plus I think it would be embarassing.

Just some thoughts.

Thanks you for all the work building and keeping up the site- it is an invaluable website!!

Best-
Matt

Have you tried using the "Search This Forum" button just to the right of the "Forum Tools" button? It's just under the "Post New Topic" button. Sounds like that's exactly what you're looking for.

+1 on Matt's point #2

I used to have my little one sit next to me while browsing the forums - Not anymore!
