Timing Light Rental
I have check with most of the main auto parts outlets in my area but none of them rent timing lights. Any ideas is renting such a item is possible for where to do so? All of a sudden this weekend my car developed a poor idle where it had a rock solid idle. I adjusted my timing by ear a bit and it improved but then I noticed I was getting detonation under higher rpm where there was none before. I then put the timing back where it was in the first place and it did then seem to idle fine (900rpm). I would like to put a timing light on it but really don't wish to drop the money needed to buy one. Thanks

Agreed on the buy one. I thought the same as you but a timeing light is key in keeping your car tuned, it will pay for itself. You could probably go to Autozone or napa they might let you borrow one to use in the Parking Lot but I have never heard of renting one.

+1 on the Sears light above. One of the "care packages" shipped to Evren contained one of those. He took it to a local Istanbul mechanic, asking for tips on hookup. This mechanic wet ga-ga...Final result being Evren giving one to the mechanic, who is surely giving Evren top priority...

I think I paid $20 for my timing light at the local Murray's Auto Parts a few years ago and it comes in handy... You don't need a fancy one, just a basic timing light will work.

The inexpensive timing light as shown on the Harbor Freight link above works great. I carry that light in my enclosed dune buggy trailer and use it at the desert when needed and it works just as well as my expensive Craftsman
