ARRRGH!!! Got BACKED INTO!!

Come out of the apartment in Old Towne Orange where I live on Mon. morning and go to uncover my car, parked at curb, and what do I find?

My heart just sank...no note, no cars around...nothing...WTF!

Clean up the carnage and get on with my sad day...cell rings 3 hours later...my neighbor says he's sorry he backed his Tacoma into my car this morning and that his insurance Co. will contact me!

He said he looked in his R. side mirror and saw my wifes covered 993 parked 2 spaces further back and just started backing up to get out...so far looks like almost $5,000...2 new fenders, lights, trim rings, hood crest, repaint front clip. Luckily it didn't get into the cowling or doors!

My big fear is that the insurance will try to tell me the car is only worth 8-9 grand and that it is 'totaled'

I guess it's all fixable in the long run. Just sucks.

Coop

Damage...

Coop,

I think the problem will be is that the Insurance company won't pay for new fenders, only the repair of them. That's the rip...

Take it to Automotive Innovations and Restorations in Van Nuys. Kevin (KevinP73 here on the board) will take good care of you. He'll work with the insurance company and hopefully can work out an estimate that won't result in the car being considered a total loss.

Painful pics.

Too many people behind the wheel that should have taken a taxi instead.

+1 - Kevin does incredible work. I have to call him myself in the next couple of months for some touchups.

Good Neighbor...

Coop,

Well at least the neighbor had the courtesy and honesty to tell you. Now days that's pretty refreshing... I hope it works out, let us know what the Insurance adjuster says... I wonder if you have a "stated value" policy the insurance company would put the car back together with new fenders?

from the pictures that looks very repairable but will defer to KevinP73 for final comment. I would rather have my OE fender repaired over replacement from today's crap they sell. IMO

FWIW ... I called Progressive (my insurance carrier) a few weeks ago to determine how they valued my car for fear of getting ripped off.

This is what I got:

http://www.nadaguides.com/default.aspx?LI=1-22-1-5013-0-0-0&l=1&w=22&p=1&f=5014&y=1982&m=1144&d=934&c=9&vi=84913&z=29464&da=-1

Low Retail - $14,300
Average Retail - $16,900
High Retail - $21,900

I was considering only having liability coverage. Since these numbers are satisfactory, I decided to keep my comprehensive.

Thanks for the kind words ALL! Yep it is all repairable.

My first thought was to fix the fenders and try to keep the car as Original as possible. Problem is they are both kinked pretty good on the insides near the hood. It is a tough area to repair as it is VERY stout with the headlight bucket in there. At a min. the right fender really should be replaced.

I'm heading out the door to go see the Adjuster in a few min. I'll post up the estimate #'s tonight.

I've got an '82 in the shop with identical damages but only on the passenger side(it can be seen on the shop cam). Insurance will replace not repair the fender. Damages in the area of 3 grand but his insurance has paid without hesitating.

Cool! That is what I'm hoping for. The labor to repair the fender I'm sure out weighs the $$$ to just bolt on a new one.

Damn!!!!!!!! What a pain,..this has prompted me to get back on the "agreed value" policy route for my 89 Silver Anniversary........if something should happen? Presently with Geico,..what an idiot I am...what a gamble... Copper911SC demonstrates the point...

I wish you the best......they'll come through, I hope.

Best

Now would be a good time to change your headlights to the H5 style lens.
