Angry A/C Box clips........

Any tips on re-installing the spring clips that hold the a/c evaporator box together? I got them off by tapping the end with a screwdriver and sliding the clips off the brackets. However, putting them back on has (so far) defied all my efforts!

Thanks in advance,

When I re-did my whole AC system with a Griffiths kit, it came with small self tapping screws to use in the evaporator lid instead of those clips which are virtually impossible to reinstall

Clips....you don't need no stinkin clips!

Seriously, I got no clips.....box cover held on by brackets only. My guess it that when I pull the box soon to replace the evaporator, I'll find the clips down below.

will the self taping screws work on the stock evap box? If so can we just get the screws from Griffiths or find out what size they are and how they are installed?

Griffiths sells a kit to reseal the evaporator box. It includes instructions and the necessary screws. I think there's a gasket in the kit, too.

When my AC kit arrived, it had self tappers and some black putty tape to help seal up the box.

I didn't like his screws so I used 1/2" selt tapping TEC screws on my stock evaporator box(the kind that have a 1/4" hex head)

No air leaks and they are much easier than trying to deal with factory clips

I actually got a couple of the clips back on using safety wire as a pulling tool (hooked the bottom first then pulled upwards with the wire). Next time it comes apart, it will get screws!

I used a hooked picking tool to install mine. Like Tim said, get the bottom of the clip on and tug the top portion up and into position. I also used a long thin piece of wire to keep the clips from dropping into never-never land while I was installing them. Once you get each clip in place, pull the wire out.

I was able to take 1 photo and my batteries in the camera went but if you look on the evaporator box towards the upper right, you'll see a tek screw.
