Unhappy Convertible top woe's

I have a 81 911 that started out life as a Targa. At some point in its life it was converted to a convertible. Up until a few weeks ago the top retracted flawlessly. The other day when I went to lower the top the motor on the passenger side would not release the latch. The drivers side will release and raise about 4 inches before stopping. The motor is held in place by 4 bolts. After removing them I could not remove the motor. There is what appears to be some type of set screw on the motor. If I back this screw out will it relieve the pressure on the gears and allow me to raise the top manually on that side? Summer in Wisconsin is to short and I sure could use some help.

Thanks

Keith

Keith,

There is a screw/bolt that will allow you to manually operate the top, but I'm not sure which on it is. I recommend that you look on the parts diagram for the top's motor, it is labeled as such.

Aside from that, someone has got to know. My top doesn't have the motors, so I don't know from personnal experience.
