My passion

The car is more fun to drive because: 1) More raw, elemental
2) Takes more work to go fast 3) Better motor sounds (mechanical symphony - not found on the water cooled carrera's) 4) Classic body styling

I agree, but put a new 997 in front of me and I might change my mind

Where in the OC are you? You should join us for GAF to Ventura, planning a small drive up there.

Is there such a thing as a favourite among a person's children?

If you like the 87, you'd love an early lightweight car. I'll trade you my 73 track car straight up, I'll even drive to Cali to make the swap.

Ah, yes! Just had to respond to your post. We are of like mind here! I bought my SC 2 1/2 years ago with exactly those criteria in mind! My interest in Porsches evaporates post SC/Carrera because the later cars just don't offer me those very qualities.

I'll never sell my SC and if I get another sports car it'll be an even older, lighter Porsche, a Lotus or an Ariel Atom.

I share your enthusiasm and apreciation of these "real" Porsches!

That's EXACTLY why I (and many on this board) own these cars.
Yours is a very clean example.
Here's mine:

btw, what type of muffler is that?

And here I am drooling in the Porsche Center shop window, admiring the 997 and you are telling me my present old timer is more fun to drive. That´s alright then. I couldn´t afford the 997 in twenty years anyhow.

But really. That must be quite a disappointment ? Should be alright for a daily hack commuting to work though ?

A couple of years ago I drove a £70,000 996, and it was bloody fantastic. however, i can't say that it was hugely different from my 25 year old SC. as the journos say, all these cars are an evolution, not a revolution and i had to agree.

the 996 was clearly the better car all round, the interior is much nicer, the car is slung a bit lower, the gearchange is easy! but was it £60,000 better? the answer, as you all know, is absolutely not.

and another thing, much as i like all 911s, the modern ones do not have quite the same iconic individuality of the original shape. Mine still turns heads wherever i go, including Knightsbridge which is chokka with hot metal.

ultimately, i have to agree with you all, there is something seductive about the raw, unpretentious mechanical nature of these beasts that makes them quite addictive.

(unfortunately i can't work out how to attach a photo)

Very nice car. No tail, no script and black Fuchs all add up to a "clean" and timeless Porsche.

Not all that uncommon - safe.
Rear wing, no front air dam - unsafe.

OK - so why did you cut the intake - you know you can extrude hone??

and missing a piston and cylinder - you'll really like it when you are running on 6 cylinders... j/k
