Why is my SC Stalling??
Driving my '82 SC in hot weather the other day and once I got off the freeway it stalled out. Every-time I slowed to a stop (or made a slow turn) it would stall out. It restarted quickly each time. All this occurred at about 210 on the temp gage after running hard for about 45 mins. Car seems to run fine below 210 and very rarely does it get that hot.
What could be the problem? 82 SC Last edited by silverstrand; 09-02-2007 at 06:45 AM.. |

Do you have a Permatune CD? There are numerous reports of them failing when hot.
Sometimes the coils fail under these conditions.

Check and clean all grounds. Including the transmission strap.
I had a similar issue that turned out to be the "green wire from hell". It would stall out and crank after a few minutes with no problems. It was brown from wear/tear and was brittle causing the signal to break, stalling the car. You can check by leaving the car on and moving the wiring harness near the distributor to see if it cuts off. That was how I finally found my problem.

No Permatune CD. It's the Bosch CD. I will check the wires to see if they look good. If not... I trust my mechanic can figure it out $$$.
Thanks Guys!! Brett '82 SC |
