oh no, I found rust...

Today I was outside at work, and noticed a small spot of bubbing paint on my front passenger fender at the front just above the bumper line. I immediately felt a knot in my stomach. I don't think I need to panic and repaint the whole vehicle, but would appreciate some advise, how to best tackle it. Currently the spot is no bigger than a quarter. I woild like to addresses ASAFP. Any thoughts.

Get to it as soon as you can. Sand down the entire area and if necessary, cut the cancer out. Then have the area re-shot. It doesn't have to be the entire car, but you have to remove the rust/rot completely, preferably sooner than later.

thanks, I plan to tackle this week. I am hoping no cutting will be required, but will have a better idea once the cancer is exposed.

and for what it's worth, if you don't have access to sand blasting or other invasive procedures get a pro on it. There only needs to one tiny little rat micron of that nasty stuff for it to reform. Most body shops can do a spot repair or single panel job and match the paint very well - fade/wear permitting. With rust its best to be sure. I know this from previous experience. From now on I will send in the calvary.

Agreed. Treat rust like an infection because it IS. Research a few years ago found that certain bacteria are involved in the rusting process - they want to have lots of iron in their "blood" too...

Get it all.

Or you can look at it as an excuse to upgrade to CF panels, where applicable. . .

is the current paint original or repaint? I had several repaints with bublles which they turn out to be only on the color coat. Meaning when you break the bubbles, the primer is still there in good condition. If it's original paint, almost for sure you need to treat it.
