Made My Own FG Watershields
Posted this in the Engine Forum, but meant to post here. Thought I'd share this with the forum. I decided to try my hand at a FG lamination project. Thought I'd try to replicate the K&N watershileds in the early amber fiberglass motif. Need to perfect my technique a bit and improve the molds, but the first set didn't come out to bad considering I'd never done this before.. Once I get the hang of it I will make a few sets and sell them to Pelicanites for a modest sum. Let me know off line if you'd be interested. And Oh yes, they a very light compared to the original metal ones.

Looks like a good first try to me - keep it up.
You could also try this in pre impregnated Carbon Fibre - it is no more difficult to do than in FG, and if you use the correct pre-preg does not require an autoclave at all. Your local yacht builder will be able to supply sourcing information - Suppliers on this side of the world are no use to you I guess.

Those look great. I've been doing a bit of that myself lately. I made a battery box for no acid leaks into the front sheetmetal. I make a mockup out of cardboard held together with glue from a hot glue gun. I spray the whole surface with LPS-3 and the finished piece pulls right off. Some shapes can reuse the form.

What did you use for a mold? I'd be interested in a set how much you thinking for a pair?

Very nice! Mine never sees rain but even washing needs prep and a nice set would look great.
Nice job, they look great. Info on the molds would be great.

Yo Bob: your watershields look pretty durn cool. Subject to $ I could very well be interested in a set. I'm wondering about something a little "custom" like maybe a Porsche crest "floating in the finish" or whatever. Keep me in mind if you decide to go "semi-commercial". (don't forget to run it by Wayne).

This was a project last year that I got side tracked from. Currently working on bare metal repaint. When I finish that I may look at doing a few sets. I'll post here when that happens.
