strange crazy electrical issue
Hey folks,
I noticed that wenn I brake, obviously my brakelights go on but also my me left front side maker light... How can this be?!? I also have another electrical problem. I posted this before but still haven't figured it out completely. My front and rear driving lights aren't working. I've traced the problem down to the lightswitch. To doublecheck that the lightswitch is the culprit, witch wires should I 'hotwire' to bypass the lightswitch? thanks Johan |

When requesting electrical help it is useful to specify which car you have. That way we don't give you advice assuming you are driving a Fiat Panda.

Hey John,
911t (s-replica with original s-engine) from '73 The first problem I figured out yesterday evening! At one time I installed the wrong bulb. i used a single bulb while it should be a double one... The second issue...what color wires should I connect to bypass the lightswitch to illuminate the rear driving lights. I don't know sh..t of electricity, so I want to make sure i don't **** anything up! ![]() Thanks for any advice Johan |

Electrical bugs...
Quote:
![]() . The turn-signals and back-up lights was all going bananas, with a fuse burning out and no easy answers. Everything was tested, relays, switches and all - it all came down to a bent contact point in the rear-lighthousing (the housing is of metal and the contact was touching it)... All needed was to bend it inwards - and after that no more bugs. Before you buy any new parts, I adwise you to see if there is any fuses that is warm (of burning hot - I got a blister when testing). Then you can isolate the problem - these things doesn't have to be logical! ![]() Good luck, Ole Petter

Johan,
I had a similar problem with my 1973 911E. All sorts of odd electrical problems. I finally wound up finding, cleaning and refastening every electrical connection on the car! Early Porsches are notorious for electrical issues caused by corroded ground connections. Remove every fuse, bulb and relay and clean the connections. Also clean all wire end connections you can find; the especially the battery, lights and connections to the starter. Probably the most important connection to clean is the transmission ground strap. This strap alone is the cause of more early Porsche electrical heartburn than any other single item! I used dielectric grease where ever I could to prevent (delay) future corrosion. I haven't had any issues since! This thread, which I'll call "the Ultimate Early 911 Electrical thread," thanks to John Cramer, should help alot. Good Luck.
