I've driven both and I've found subtle differences. I could not even tell the all wheel drive was present until I needed it. I have a "plain" 993 now, but would love to have a C4S. That being said, I love my "plain" 993 just the same. :)

Rather than stating my info is "Garbage" and "Crap", produce some real documentation to prove differently! And speaking of posting "Crap", I would point out that I am not the one with over 6,000 Posts, for an average of over 3 posts per friggin" day, ??? That, IMHO, is a LOT of CRAP! I did own a 968 (among many other Porsches over the years) but no longer do. Owning it did not make me an authority on 993's, just how to replace the Clutch, PP and Flywheel on a 968 (which, I might add, WAS easier than the same job on my original 951!). Currently driving an '83 SC and an '87 M491 Carrera Cab. A good friend has a 993 C2S and HAD a C4... And he noted the exact same truck like handling issue as I mentioned... If you didn't, jolly good for you!!! As to pricing, I follow the market quite closely (PML, Excellence, Pano, the various web sites and even, yes, evilbay!). It's all there in black and white, and sometimes even color! But, I can see this Thread is going nowhere, so I will agree to disagree with you, and end this nonsense here. |
Max, you need to update your signature with your '83 SC.
Many of us know Mark around here, with his over 6,000 posts. He is a pretty well respected poster, so putting him down will likely get you nowhere. I hope both of you will try to keep things civil. You both have your opinions, but I cannot agree with your "truck like" handling comment. No Porsche has "truck like" handling, not even a 968. ;) |
I prefer the normal 993 vs the big S butt.

"About $15K in resale dollars!!! IF it is a C2S..." A 2S sells at $5-8K premium over a 4S given similiar condition. C4S? Not so sure... Not many fans of the truck like AWD system... First - I don't know how you come up with "truck like AWD". The system is actually very elegant and in most cases transparent. Second, the 4S is a very sought after car - especially in cold/wet climates. I had Ginger for sale a couple months ago and 3 offers for purchase in the first week. Thankfully, I decided she should stay with me. It's difficult sometimes to wade through the conjecture on BBS's to get to people with real world experience and knowledge. I'm sure you are a nice enough chap, but your posting is pure conjecture with absolutely no evidence to back it up. I've said all I'll say on this - conject away. |
I think the slender non-S version is esthetically more harmonic. Looks more agile and less pretentious (and dare I say it - cute).
I think it was GT Porsche magazine that made a piece on the difference between them. I clearly remember them saying that the choice would depend partly on what quality of road surface one generally road. With Britain´s (and Sweden´s) usually very crappy asphalt with big holes in, they would not recommend the S-version as they felt it too hard suspension wise. I have no personal experience, having never even had the pleasure of riding passenger in any 993. What a gap in my Porsche experience.. |

The key for Ginger is on the kitchen countertop should you ever find your way to Dallas. She's yours for the day. Mark |

Thanks a lot anyway! Come to think of it I always wanted to visit the ranch where JR used to ask his younger brother: "Can I fix you a drink, Bobby?" Would that be close by? |
40 minutes away. Ginger is here when you're ready.
Hey Max - thanks for the new signature tag line. |
He, He... "Whatever blows your skirt!", as they like to say in Texas! And that is not "Misinformation!"... Lived up in Paris and worked over in Clarksville back in the '80's, and that IS what the locals used to say if they couldn't figure out where you were coming from! Also did a stint at McKinney, making alloy wheels in Shelby's Wheel Plant. His son Pat ran the place back then. Hell of a nice guy...
Oh, and "Scooter"... who started putting who down first??? But, took your advice and "Updated" my Signature... God forbid I would be taken for one of those 'Water Pumper" Porsche Lovers!!! ;>)) So, I'm cool, now. Makes no never mind if the price diff on C2S's is $5K or $15K, and if you like C4's, GREAT! I will even admit I liked my 968, esp. on the track! Oh, yeah... been to "J.R.'s ranch"... sure looks a LOT smaller when you find out they used a camera to expand the front pasture by about 50 acres!!! |

Hey Island - watch out what you say. After all, you've never met Pat Shelby.

Hey Mark, your truck's butt looks great. BTW, I LOVE the front wheel/LH fender on the RH side of the pic; that looks like a STUNNING car, from what I can see of it.

So I must assume one's Posts here gain more creds if one has a large set of tits as an Avatar photo? Yeah, that's major cool! Sure! If you're Twelve! In case you folks missed it, (and apparently you did) I LIKE 993'S!!! No question, they are the last of the the REAL Porsches, and I like the C2S models the best of all! And if I needed an AWD sports car, I would definitely pick a 993 C4S, vs the other various options (Audi, Suby, etc.) As to pricing, I would think 993 "S" owners would be quite happy to agree that there is a significant "uptick" in price for a C2S (and no doubt, for a C4S as well) vs. the plain vanilla 993. A quick search showed one (black) C2S advertised at $65K, and a multitude of non "S" 993's advertised from the mid $30's to the upper $40's... So in fact, I was a bit LOW on the price difference... but in real buying power, I still think that $15k would span the "Value Gap" between "Plain Jane" 993's and the few C2S cars out there. So No Worries; Be Happy! Perhaps your Fat Bottomed 993's are worth more than you thought! |

Just to bring some facts (not necessarily reality) to this thread, I found the following cars for sale on Autotrader. This is obviously not the "sold" price, but merely the prices for sale. I was surprised of the results.

Wow. Scott, you are thorough.
I think the difference is, those with truck-like handling are less motivated to sell their trucks. . . or maybe they are just a bunch of idiot '12-year old' owners. ;) |
