993 basic vs. 993"S" question.
What constitutes an "S"?
What extras come with an S? Thanks. :) |
Depends on if it is a C4S or a C2S. A C4S will basically be a turbo without the turbo, which means a beefed up suspension and larger brakes. Both will be a widebody, which means larger fenders in the back, wider wheels in the back and a different front bumper. Other than that the engine is the same and options are the same.

The 993 "S" is a wide-bodied variant.
They made two versions; the C2S and the AWD C4S. C4S's received the AWD system, the Big Red brakes on the TT and solid-spoke versions of the TT's hollow-spoke wheels. C2S's had standard 993 brakes and the same wheels as above. |

the biggest difference between a 2S and 4S besides AWD is the brakes. 4S has the tt big reds and electro- hydraulic booster. 2S has vacuum boosted like the regular 993n/b |
Bill, I believe my statement is at least partially true. ;)
It is also my understanding that the C4S also received the beefed up sway bars from the turbo. Is that correct? The sways are what I was mostly talking about when I said "beefed up suspension." I was correct on the brake upgrade. I guess I stand corrected on the wheels, although I don't understand how I am wrong, because I see turbo twist 11's all the time, which do not fit a NB car. Bill is the wheel man, so I believe what he says. |
On normally aspirated 993's, "S" means it's more "Spensive" but not any faster ;)

In US the ride heights are all the same, RoW regular is lower and M030 is eevn lower the only turbo specific parts are the 2 lateral scissor pieces. 11s came out later on 996tt and GT3 |
Thanks Bill. What you said makes sense.

An S gets you a bigger butt and bragging rights that you have a somewhat rare car. I would take either but am happy that Ginger is a fat bottomed girl.

You guys left out the most important difference:
The C2S has the ULTRA COOL split grill: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1189664029.jpg |
About $15K in resale dollars!!!
IF it is a C2S... C4S? Not so sure... Not many fans of the truck like AWD system... |

I do like the split grill above though. Mark, I see only one car in your sigy. What happened to the early ride? |

C4S is far from a truck. You can't even tell its got the 4wd until you go an pull a stuck pickup out of the mud or pull a stump.
|
Does anyone have a good depiction on how much wider the S looks from the regular Carrera? A nice side by side.

Separately, there doesn't seem to be much of a difference, but side by side.... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1189746331.jpg |
The "S" is quite the looker. I guess it is a "Turbo Look" in a 993 version? If they had did something to the engine to give it another 50hp over the stock 993 they would of hit a homerun.

Opinions are like ... well you get the idea...

Even if they can't back it up with substantial evidence! A variety of '97 "Plain" 993's for sale at $40K, +/-... Now try to find a NICE (less than 20K miles and all original paint) 1997 993 C2S for less than $55K... As to the subjective feel of a C2S vs. a C4 or C4S, I have driven both, and yes, I can feel the substantial difference; if you can't, it may simply be that you started with, and are very used to the AWD setup... and that is fine... Just not for me! But then again I still like the early Longhoods w/o A/C, so go figure! |
