Chrome or Black Engine Grill on 1971 Targa?
I'm finishing up the body work while I wait for the idle and main jets to arrive. I've given it the full Zymol treatment and 3M polishing compounded almost every imperfection out. Followed by clay and Zymol Carbon, it is looking pretty good!
My metal engine grill looks to have been black anodized but wearing through/weathering. I am considering what a chrome grill would look like. I've seen some classics with crhomed grills that looked fantastic, but I'm trying to avoid any "bling" look. As it is now, the engine grill is the only bit of black trim on the car, so it stands out as if mismatched however another bit of chrome might be too much. The top is never on it, so ignore that for the pics. I've also ordered the "PORSCHE" script letters in chrome to see how they look in the tail over the license plate. I know its a personal choice but would appreciate some pics of similar color/bodywork and opinions for comparison' sake. THanks ![]() ![]()

The clear anodized grille would look better than a black one, IMO. Black came in when the lens trim and horn grilles changed to black.

The black grill looks better with the 73 trim. |

Beautiful car, but since it's not original with the duck and the flares, you can go with what you like. Original was clear anodized aluminum for '71.

Car looks great. I planned on going w/ a black grill on my ivory car if I got a duck since my '72 came w/ black grill but chrome grills and lens trim.

Thanks guys. I am considering trying some chrome-paint on the gold Targa lettering. Gold just doesnt seem right.
I'm aware the duck and the front suspension arent original, which flares do you think are replacements (from what?) I have minimal information on the car. It has a 2.7 in it, webers, coilovers and a Prototipo wheel. I've converted to 1 battery, replaced anything vinyl with leather and redone the interior. EDIT: sorry Zeke, were you referring to the bumpers?
