Well, after reading the Seine Gate Shift web page I became concerned about the new spring pressure on the 1-2 plane causing some wear in the trans. I don't recall it being there before but i have a little noise in 1 & 2 now that disapears as soon as i move the shift lever slightly to the Left from its sprung position. There is no way I'm taking off that spring so I decided to make a plate with tabs like on the 5-R plane to relieve the pressure.
This is the finished plate next to a standard plate I borrowed from my mechanic to use as a template. I used 1/16 303 stainless steel.Could have used 3/32. Also in the picture is the shift lever tab I made, before the final bend.I needed to install the plate to measure where to bend the lever tab. ![]() The shifter with spring only. ![]() Plate installed, lever tab held in place for measurement of last bend. ![]() Sorry but I made the bend and installed the lever tab with another hose clamp without taking another picture. It all works perfectly. The new tab holds the lever just slightly off its free sprung position. Don

If it works go with it. Slap a boot over it and know one will know about the hose clamp and spring. If it breaks it cost's a few cents and won't leave you stranded.
Good fabbing!

Blew--you lost me. What's the purpose of your new plate and "L" shaped tab? I also installed a spring like yours.

Predictably, the rubber bands where shredded to pieces not long after the "installation". I've bought an actual spring to do what Gunter suggested, but a day later I blew a CV joint and my car's been in a million pieces since then.
Good job Don, I thought about making the tabs a la Seine Shifter but cutting the shape out of a plate couldn't have been fun with what tools I have so it never happened. What did you use to cut the plate? Mike, take a look here: http://www.seinesystems.com/GateShift-1.htm The new tabs relieve the spring tension in 1-2 plane just like the tabs on 5-R plane does. Jasper, thanks! I had a chance to co-drive your old beast with Denny at an autocross the other day. Man, that's one hell of a car. I'm going extra slow with the work on my car in hopes that Denny might let me drive it for another session ![]()

Thanks, it took about an hour. I've access to the machine shop at work. Band saw and conventional mill.
Mike, It could be confusing because there is no picture of the final bend in the "L" shaped bracket.Sorry. Don

![]() ![]() Another way for the same result......We all do that in France for more agreement. A bit more expensive than the first solution proposed.....one euro..... Last edited by cdrik915; 01-04-2008 at 07:28 AM.. |

I precise that it's recommanded to change the shift rod bushing , it's not expensive and change the feeling of this old 915.
Adding to this solution , that's become more pleasant. |

I may have missed it in these posts, but there is a reason kits such as seine have a second set of tabs for the 1/2 plane. without them when in 1st or 2nd those bands are putting tension on the shifter and unwanted pressure on the transmission internals. I know most dont spend a lot of time in only 1/2, so may not be a big issue.
