Turbo Tail Rubber Lip Repair
Hey All!,
New Old Guy here! ![]() I got a Turbo Tail on my Targa and was wonder if anyone know of a good way to repair a tear on the top side of the rubber lip. The Tear is not all the way through but I want to stop it from going any further. I've been looking for a shop that does rubber bumper repair but can't seem to find one so I decide to do the repair my self and fine sand it to make it look seemless as possible. Thanks everyone in advance for any assistance,

Draco,
I was using a "Ding King" to remove some dings in my wifes car today and it involved using a hot glue gun with some black glue sticks. I think that the black glue would work great for your application, once it hardened to a plastic like consistency (10min) you should be able to sand it level and blend it in as it is black. Good Luck, Shane

One time I used a small amount of black silicone to fix a small tear on the backside of the rubber. It came out great and you could barely notice the difference. It would have been crazy to waste a good turbo tail rubber because of a very small mark. The repair still looked great after 15 years.

I would try ca glue (Cyanoacrylate adhesive) from a hobby shop. Its basicly a super glue. Rc car guys use it for everything (me included) Iv even seen guys narrow tires with it. They actually cut the tires in half and take with out of them or add tire to them and glue them back together. It works magic on most things but some things it doesnt stick at all. It usually works on rubber though. I used it on my front lip spoiler about a year ago and its still holding up

What color is that CA glue. If it is like the original crazy glue won't it dry kind of flaky white and maybe discolor the rubber???
Please advise & Thank you!!!

Its clear It can dry flaky and white or clear but glossy but the trick is to get it only where you need it and wipe it off quick anywhere else. And it dries pretty quick so you have to glue then hold the part together while you wipe off the excess. In anycase im sur eit will work a heck of alot better than hot glue unless your trying to fill in a missing chunk or somthing like that

Great, thanks for the quick reply. I am going to practice on some old tire rubber pieces and see how they come out.

fwiw, I've used black silicone on the front lip with fairly good results.
If it is a clean tear (not needing any fill) then I expect super-glue should work fine.

I would think you'd need the super glue for porous materials. They now also make one with a primer. That's what I would use....or one of the two part, flexible bumper repair adhesive/fillers. www.paintscratch.com sells one product for $15 (3M automix is another).
