Just to make sure this is the issue

Installed H-4's a while back with no relays. Turn signals worked fine with the lights off and on. Recently the turn signals stopped working when the headlights where on, they work with the lights turned off. I just replaced the turn signal assembly and I still have the issue of no turn signals with the headlights on.....Is the H4 relay fix, really the fix in this issue?

Just a quick clarification. When you say the turn signals don't work, do you mean they don't flash or they don't even light?

One more time: Define "do not work". When you move the turn-signal stalk, do the turn signals light but DO NOT FLASH, or do they not light up at all when the stalk is activated?

But the turn signals will flash when you turn the headlights on during the day?

This is tough, fender. With the headlights ON, do the turn signals go on and stay on, or do they not light at all.

Understand that they do not blink.

What is the wattage of the bulbs in the H4's? If they are just 55/60 watts or so, they're not putting more load on the system than standard sealed beams and the relays wouldn't be a huge issue.

If they are 80/100 watts or something, they no relays could cause problems.

Validate your grounds... I had to add a ground to mine to make it work right (I know it was the lazy thing to do instead of correcting the existing ground... but I was in a hurry that night... that was 3 years ago... and it was just the front driver side turn signal)...

i tested my trun signals when I replaced the whole switch...they worked untill i turned the headlights on...they would stop blinking on the speedo and tail lights....

i believe these are the 55/60 watts...

when I put the h'4s on everything worked and then one the turn signals sstopped blinking when the headlights were on at night...

On Porsche the solid brown wires are ground (earth).

Did this happen when you changed the TS stalk or when you put in the H4's. I don't think the H4's are the problem.

You said this: "i tested my trun signals when I replaced the whole switch...they worked untill i turned the headlights on...they would stop blinking on the speedo and tail lights...."

Does that mean the front turn signal DO work? Only the rear and speedo don't work?

Once again.... when they stop blinking, do they go OFF or do they stay ON steady?

do they work if you increase your rpm's?

on my '73, if I have my headlights (H4's) on and then flip the indicator stalk, one of the green arrows in the direction I selected on the gauge will flash a few times and then both green arrows will flash and then they both will stop. is this what your's are doing?

if i increase my rpm's, then the green arrows begin working correctly.

Check the wattage and installation of the new bulb--is it the correct wattage and is it fully seated in the socket. The wrong bulb can cause these symptoms.

Again, check the groung wires. Just because they are connected doesn't mean you have a good ground. Remove them, clean the terminals, and reinstall. The rear grounds connect to the chassis, under the car. Not sure of the fronts.

Once you've double checked all connections and bulbs, you may wish to check the flasher relay itself. My car had the same symptoms and it turned out to be that the relay wasn't fully seated.

GF is probably right.

You probably have the wrong bulb in the socket. Replace w/ correct bulb. The wrong bulb will do what you've tried to describe.

No. 1034 bulb, I think? Dual filament bulb which would explain why it doesn't work when the headlights are on. Make sure you install it correctly or it still won't work.

Good luck. Keep the GF.
