Heater Blower Problems - 1985 - 911 Cabriolet
1985 911 Cabriolet 88K miles
Problem: Heater motor blowers in front left and right not working When I bought my car a few years ago I noticed that when I pulled up both heat levers the passenger side heater blower motor didn’t work and would emit a burning plastic smell if I turned on the heater fan and lever on the passenger side by the E-brake lever. Fast forward to today and my driver’s side heater blower is now doing the same thing. I’ve searched on line to look into this and my thinking is that it is bad heater motor and fans are seized and this is why I’m getting a burning plastic smell? I think that they are located somewhere near the floorboard or dash on the left and right (I haven’t looked it up in my repair book yet) There’s also a heater motor in the engine compartment that might be suspect but I’m guessing it’s more of the front heater / blower assemblies? So, anybody hear of this happening as a usual repair and any idea how hard it is to repair and any links online showing the repair? I see the front motors with fans are about $170 each from aftermarket. My Porsche mechanic quoted me near $1K to troubleshoot and replace both if needed so I’m trying to save some $ if I can do this repair myself. Thanks in advance for any advice ![]() If I missed a related post and answer to this my apologies as I did a search on the forums but didn't see anything specific to my problem. Bruce |

Yes, there are lots of threads. Search on Footwell Blower.
In a nutshell, you have 2 footwell blowers as well as the main heater blower in the engine bay. Obviously your footwells need help but you should also check the main blower. Test all three by running a 12V line from your battery & try 'em one at a time. All three can be removed without too much pain. Here are some threads to get you started: Help! Does anyone understand the footwell blower circuit? Footwell blower motor replacement… (?) Footwell Blowers 911 HEATER/BLOWER REPAIR Good luck. Ian
