camshaft housing mystery????
I've always seen the 901 camshaft housings listed as 3 bearing types and the 930 camshaft housings listed as 4-bearing types. I recently received some camshafy housing assemblies with cam, rockers, heads, etc. in a parts lot.
Here's the mystery. I disassembled everything and here's the p/n's camshaft housings are: 901.105.111.1R cams: 930 105 146 7R & 8R (3.0?) 4-bearing heads: 930.104.329.2R (3.0?) dated 7/77 These 901 housings are 4-bearing and mate with the early 3.0 cams. Is this typical? Did the early SC's use 901 numbered housings. Is it possible that these are early turbo or 3.0 carrera parts? regards, al ![]()

Al,
Measure the cam bearing diameters. Are the heads 2.7 stud spacing or 3.0 stud spacing? What are the numbers on the ends of the cams? With the '76 2.7 porsche changed to 4-bearing but maintained the smaller 47 mm diameter bearings. With the '78 911SC the bearing diameter increased to larger diameter. Best, Grady
