On the plate envelope "This license plate manufactured by the North Carolina Correction Enterprises" |
I just traded in my personalized plates for generic ones.
Why? It's not that I didn't like what it said, or that I was worried about what other would think. I'm a designer so I'm always looking at things from a design perspective. The thing I realized when I looked at the back of my car is that the eyes always go to the plate first. I didn't want the plate to attract attention, I wanted the beauty of that duck-tail and rear fenders to be what the eyes see first. Also, there are plenty of words on the back of my car already. The big PORSCHE across the back, and even the Carrera decal on the tail. It was word overload. I even got rid of the Carrera license plate frame and replaced it with a plain one. I prefer the cleaner look. Anybody want to buy a Carrera license plate frame?
That's mine on the left.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1211410132.jpg |

On this subject my father had a Nissan (Datsun?) 300z back in the day. His name is Ernst Rudolf Dorsch- so he made his plate ERD-Z. One day one of his coworkers took a permanent marker and made it NERD-Z. We all had a pretty good laugh at that. After he sold the Z he never had another personalized plate though.

I never had vanity or personalized plates for the Porsche, but I did manage to get a normal plate when I had to replace mine after five years. I happened to get one that was 911-***. I can't remember the letters, but I remember the numbers just fine.
About the vehicles in the signatures, if people want to put every vehicle they have ever owned, that is up to them. I chose to list some of the one that I currently own and have restored. There were a few more that I have, BMW 750iL, 1 Ton Dodge Cummins Diesel Dually, but it won't allow any additional room to add anything. I list them, not because of trying to say, "see what I have" but I have had made many friends with people that have contacted me about a lot of the vehicles I have listed, because they are wanting advice, parts sources, or "how to" DIY info on some of these vintage vehicles. The only vanity or personalized plate that I ever did obtain, is on my matching numbers, 1973 340 Magnum Road Runner. It reads 73 340 RR. We are limited to seven spaces(digits) in this state. |
Yep. You can get lucky and get a state issued plate with 911 in it

Here's mine.
PERA stands for Public Employee's Retirement Association (retired teachers) PERADYZ is for our lives AFTER teaching for 32 years and living in Colorado...Paradise!! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1211478317.jpg Jerry |
I got tired of the kids with the new Z06 vettes and hemis thinking that this was a 1/4 mile car...

Wow teachers that earned enough money to retire and have not one but two Porsches. Congrats Jerry

Barney911rs,
Yes, we (both teachers) are very lucky...no kids, saved our $s and invested well. PERA took 20% of our salaries every month for 32 years and invested it for us also. We had to retire... we could not afford to live on our working teacher's pay when our PERA retirement pay and savings/investment annuities were more! Had to sell the 87 :( and transfered the PERADYZ plates over to the red 95, 993. I wanted to keep both cars, but could not...no such thing as a "wealthy" teacher. Jerry |
here are my three personalized porsche plates:
1). a tribute to Curly, not the New York American Automobile Association http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1211730562.jpg 2). I will let you figure out what the next two plates mean......first my red 911 Speedster then my Beck Spyder: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1211730657.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1211730677.jpg |

Funny how a lot of people seem to think it's for goons. I say do it, don't mind the others. I voted for NBRGRNG.
I can't see why putting a vanity plate on your Porsche is so much more of a reminder that you're fortunate than just driving a Porsche (with a normal plate). I guess some people buy a vanity plate, some buy a second Porsche. |
Had to go for it....http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1221634043.jpg
|
I always wanted to get "PANZER" but didn't want anyone confusing me with some dirty nasty tread-head mech guy so I never went for the vanity plates.

We are limited in Ct. to 6 characters and can't mix letters & numerals, (dumb constables?)

I was thinking about "DIAL 911"
Because I'm an EMT, kind of a double meaning. |

Personalised Plates are for Wankers
Personalised plates are for wankers, Period.....

"Hello, my name is Mark and I'm a Wanker". Merry Christmas to you also. ;) If you're going to knock people at least get the spelling correct. |
old 911
|
I got lucky. Asked the DMV if they had any 911 plates and she said probably not as this was just after the other 911 incident. She went back and looked and all she could find was "C2911" I said I suppose it would do...
Mine is a bit old for a C2 but hey they all look the same anyhow... Right.... |
Can I be a wanker too?
That brings to mind an old Dr. Pepper commercial where everyone is dancing around singing "I'm a pepper, Your a pepper" OMG I AM a wanker! haha |
|
Since all the "aircooled" , "luftkhlt", "luftkult", etc were taken, I just went a different route to make 'em think about it. Kind of like an end around in football ;)http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1231633458.jpg
