Porsche Crest Need Horsepower Boost

I want more power for 79 SC with a stock 3.0 CIS and I can go one of thre ways:

1) 3.6 Swap - More Power for $10K+ Maybe 250-275 Hp.
2) Rebuild 3.0 CIS - More Power for $15K-$20K Maybe 300+Hp if done correctly
3) Supercharge the 3.0 CIS - More Power, but hard the Mechanicals and
shortened motor life

Our Board owner has stated in his book that I could build a 3.7 Exp. motor

Can anyone that has done each modification jump in with help.

When one of my customers poses such questions, I always ask:

1) What is your budget?

2) What are your objectives?

The answers to the above will determine what you do and how you proceed.

You left out an obvious 4th choice - turbocharging.
Not so hard on the mechanicals and fully adjustable power (boost level).

Answer Steve's questions and the route may become clear.

You are wanting significantly more power..... and that's going to cost$$$

For less $$ you can get SSI's and a M&K exhaust > gives you a noticeable increase > not blinding fast > but better ... and for much less $$

I would like more bottom end torque and power in the mid range. I know that turbo's come on stong all at once and the superchargers is there instantly, I would like to keep my SC, but it may be cheaper to upgrade to a 964 or 993.

Not trying to be a smart ass...but if you are open to buying another car, and cheap horsepower is your goal, why not a Mustang?

Really. They're quite fast.

heck, just put a hemi in dat thang! that i'll make it fast! (just a joke) unlike most american cars, you also have to conisider that the transmission won't handle the extra torque/hp (275 shp is just about max for the 915 trans.) so you will have to change that also, and the susspention/brake upgrades are important to keep in mind. I would choose the turbocharging route

I know how you could get 50 more hp naturally asperated, but it's not popular among air cooled fanatics (it's not a v8)

putting a 3.3 in my SC

But seriously, you probably aren't interested in that, so I would go with the turbo option. but like others have said, you have to be careful about the tranny.

I never understand these type of threads. You know, you can take a 135 HP early T into a corner just as fast as any car with the same weight, tires, etc. You might even be able to come out of the corner right even with a higher HP car. So, that leaves that space between corners. I don't seem to be any more interested in the straight part than I am with the bent part.

I guess that's just me. I doubt if my car has 200 ponies left. It seems plenty fast to me. The normal Boxster we have has 205 HP but it will ask for some significant bravery in high speed corners because it's better than I am. Well, I think the Carrera might be better than I am anymore.

I don't know what I'd do with 300 HP except being in the market for some big brakes.
