Thought they were black, but they are painted red, by I think previous owner. Originally appear to be green. heres the pix, looks like it has the retaining pin every one discusses. please expert opinion on proper insert. Not sport.
I bought these today: Bilstein F4-P36-0112-H0 will they work? ![]()

OK. heres the answer to my own question. Per the guy at Bilstein. I need to use F4-R36-5001-HO- Not sport since I am looking for a bit of comfort on these terrible colorado roads!
Autozone can get them from Bilstein in couple days. |

He is not replacing the ball joint, so, no need to drive out the wedge pin.
There can be oil inside the strut housing. Not sure if that is emptied out? JW suggestion about the exchange sounds great; no effect on the alignment as long as the 3 Allen bolts are left alone. Some sort of strut nut wrench is needed and the torque is given as 87 + 14 ft-lbs for the insert. To me that would be a pre-torque of 87 and then an additional 14 ft-lbs.?? The top mounting nut M14 needs a torque of 59 ft-lbs. All this info is from the Bentley SC Repair Manual.

Agree that if you dont touch the allens on the top, no alignment is needed.

Yeah, on a Bilstein housing you've got to remove the pin to get the insert out. If your insert comes out without removing the pin, you've got problems.
There shouldn't be any oil in a Bilstein housing. A Boge housing would be full of oil though.

Thanks for clarifying between roll pin and wedge pin.
Soaking the roll pin with penetrating oil will help. The Bentley must be referring to Boge inserts. Cheers.
