That is an air pump, you don't want one.
What is a signature edition Carrera 3.0? Tell me more...

Is it any big deal to dispense with it? Any down side?

Only down side is passing emission check, if your state requires it. It's part of the system that will fail you on the visual if it's not there

Aside from the air pump, I'd check with this group and see if it's possible to remove that 5 blade fan and replace it with an 11 blade fan. Better cooling, especially during those long hot Texas days.

One delightful aspect of dwelling in a rural state is not only no emissions check, a few years ago they cancelled their safety stickers.
I would like to remove mine, but am reticent to do so as it is running SOOOO well now. Surely you don't simply "unhook"?? |

No you shouldn't just unhook it. If removed, the engine needs to be tuned differently, and maybe different spark plugs would be used.

I would lose it sooner than that, might never break and if you don't do smog you don't need it. The only complication with them is that the injectors under the car can sometimes pull threads when you screw them out if they are seized, so if you are not using heat to aid the process, the best way usually is to junk the pump and then cut the lines near the injectors, sealing with a blob of weld.
I would do a search for further opinion on plugs and lose that thing, your car will thank you for it, it makes lots of jobs much easier and the engine bay looks better without it. Then move on to the heat backdate ![]()

Andi,
I am in Houston as well. I am sure you know your car is exempt from TX emission testing so you won't need the smog pump. I removed it from my old 78SC, but taking out the plumbing "spider" under the car was not easy. There are special plugs from Weltmeister that close the injector holes. Just starting on my 70T project car. Ulrich |

Do a search for this as is off topic and has been covered many times. Basically you are losing the electric heater blower and convoluted pipework from the engine compartment and taking your cabin heat direct from the engine fan. It is a very sweet mod, easy to do and tidies everything up a treat.

I want my pump off too. i do not have A/C, so removal of the pump will make the left side of the motor a heck of a lot easier to work on. now i have to research how to 'plug the holes'..
