Don't make the same mistake...

Don't ever sell your 911. Technical portion - these cars are so way better than any other vehicle - 915 and dry sump included

After a couple years as my DD I thought the love affair was over. A buyer flew in from New Mexico, looked her over in the parking lot, paid cash, and drove her back to NM. I console myself in that I live in 911 utopia, SoCal, and there is another out there ready to take her place. We'll see...It's been 4 years and I still regret letting her go...

Very true and well said. I have the urge to get another car, maybe a 4 door M3 type sedan. I will never let my 911 enter in the picture as possible trade in value or cash investment. I'll never sell the car. If things go south on me sometime in my life, I guess it will be me, my family, my 911 and my trailer. That is one nice black 911. (I know that doesn't help)

I know exactly how you feel.
Had this one for 19 years (72T/RS clone).
She left me 5 years ago and I haven't been the same since.
But I do feel OK as I have had 2 since and now have an SC.
You are lucky to be where you are in 911 heaven.
Go buy....quick. You'll feel much better

I can't do it. No matter how I reason it to myself, after driving just a block, I just can't do it.

I sold my 911. To get a 930. If not, I would have never sold it. As for the 930? I'll sell my penis before I sell that.

As a purchasing agent for Michael Jackson, I wonder if you could contact me off line with a firm price on that...

The tears on my pillow are less now...

But it is weird...nothing new out there puts me in a buying mood...nothing!

I know how you feel. I've let other cars and motorcycles go in the past. At the time, I felt like it was time to move on or in the case of spare cars (as my 911 is) like it was just excess and superfluous.

I now have 3 young kids and another full-time hobby (cycling). And, now that my 911 is "done" except for minor aesthetics I've put aside working on it, and have just been enjoying driving it.

I really think (at least for me), the projects keep me in love with this car. I need to do a few small things to rekindle the affair. From time to time I've thought how handy the cash would come in if I sold it, but I KNOW I'd really, really regret it. I got my 911 for a great price and it's worth 1.5x what I have in it, so selling it would actually be profitable, too. My wife doesn't pressure me to sell it, but I know she'd find a use for the cash around the house, fancy vacation, etc. But, she also knows it's more than just a car, it's a hobby and I take pride in all the things I've been able to do to this car (thanks to all you guys on Pelican).

To me, the BIGGEST drawback of these cars is the snob factor. I live in the midwest and 911's are fairly rare. Sometimes people will go out of their way to "mess" with me in traffic, because I'm the "rich a-hole in the Porsh", and I don't usually drive aggressively. That is the only reason I'd ever consider selling, though. In reality, my 23 year-old 911 cost me about 1/2 what their Honda Civic cost them! If I didn't do my own wrenching, I could never afford to keep the 911. I almost hesitate to bring it to work because co-workers think I'm showing off.

If it makes you feel any better, your picture convinced me I really need to polish my petals on my Fuchs and probably tint at least the rear windows. Mine has the black interior and it just soaks up the solar radiation!

I agree with the other posters… go looking for a new one, it's the only solution!

I've spent many nights cursing previous owners and mechanics as I try to correct the problems they created in my 911. Several times I've thought about selling it, but as soon as I drive those thoughts vanish. Its my daily driver and to this point has never let me down.

So I'll be driving it cross country in just over a week so it can continue to be my daily driver. Many of my friends and family thought I should have sold it here in CA, but I can't bring myself to do it. I've put too much time, effort and $ into this car to just sell it out of convience at a single point of time in my life. I know I'd hate myself if I ever did it for that reason. Maybe getting a 930 would change my mind...
