Question on 3.0 liter SC
I was looking at a 1975 911 for sale. The owner told me that the car has a 3.0 liter engine... and that 1975 was the first year for a 911SC. I thought the first year for the SC was either 77 or 78. I think 78. Is this guy crazy or was that an option? Also, could this have been a car from Europe possibly? Thanks for your help

I remember when I bought my SC. He said that it had the magnesium crank case and that it was the "bullet proof" engine that porsche made. There are all kinds of crap that people try and tell you when buying a p-car. Make sure you got it straight and read alot.
Adam Roseneck (incase you were wondering, I have the the SC in the first year it came out, 1978, and it has an ALUMINUM engine that is, supposedly, bullet broof. There were 3.0s available before 78 known as the Carreras.) ------------------ 1978 911SC 3.0 roseneck@cyberbeach.net |

There are lots of 'indicators' as to what engine it was when it left the factory ... but all may not be original with the engine now! And not all sellers are honest or knowledgeable!
The only way to idendify the car is get the VIN from the winshield post, and the engine serial number AND 'type number' from the engine block near the fan housing on the right side. The 'type number' will be of the form 930/xx if it is an SC engine, or 911/xx if it is a 2.7 or earlier. ------------------ Warren Hall 1973 911S Targa |

Thanks for the advice... anything else upon visual inspection I should look for? It is a targa, did the "Carrera" models come in the targa form? They had the rear spoiler right?
Thanks again Jon- |
