need transmission help
I think I want to remove my trans and check to see if the flywheel is balanced and to fix some minor leaks.
The reason I think it might be a unbalanced flywheel or pressure plate is I get this vibration between 1200 - 1800 rpm wether the car is parked in neutral with the clutch in or out, or moving or not. Also the vibration happens when the gas is pressed or on the decel of the engine rpm without the gas pressed. So it vibrates going up the rpm and down. I guess it could be the engine but my compression b/t cylinders is within 10%, my plugs read clean and all cylinders seem to be firing. I've tested all the electronics and have replaced numerous things such as the coil, ICV, plugs, wires, DME - etc, etc. Still, Vibration persists. So barring the engine I've only been able to verify its one or two things: the transmission or maybe the alternator or engine cooling fan. Any other advice is appreciated!!! Could there be a vibration internal to the trans? The PO had 1st and 2nd gear rebuilt on the trans and I don't know how they managed this but the seal that marries the back half of the trans to the front trans is seeping lube out. Also the small plate on the bottom seems to have fluid either coming from the bolts or the seal around the plate the bolts hold on. So once I test the fan/alternator theory and it comes up ok, then I will need to drop my trans. I've heard its just as easy to drop the engine/trans as it is to drop the trans alone, but I don't have access to any gear that could lift the car high enough to get the engine out, so dropping just the trans seem like it might be the way to go.

You can test the fan/alternator theory by briefly removing the fan belt.

my thought exactly, I've asked my friend to bring over his fan tool so I can remove the belt. I'll be able to tell in under 5 seconds of running, so no worry with running it too long without the fan.

I say its the Pressure Plate. Any over revs in the past? That can tweak the "springs" on the P.P.

not by me, but who knows what the PO did. I just wish there was an easier way to figure it out w/o taking the tranny out!
