Introducing Ugly Betty... my "new" muffler

I need some opinions and haven't been getting much from the orginal therad, soooo..............

After cutting into my project muffler again today, and making some modifications (mainly stuffing the end cavity with steel wool), I decided to rename Frankenmuffler... it is now Ugly Betty. It is a lot better then the first trial I think, but I am still not sure. I want opinions on whether it sounds good or bad. Trying to decide if I should go back to the drawing board again.

To recap for those that did not see the original thread, this muffler started out as a spare Carrera Bishoff muffler, I sectioned out about a foot or more, gutted the rest, added some baffling, and now some dampening... The result is a 10lb or less muffler (have not got the new official weight yet) that does not sound too bad. Would definitely be alright for track use, I would think... Here is a youtube video for you to check it out...

Yeah, I hear you (oops, pun was not intended)... Are you going to Porsche Palooza. I am going to take a chance on everyone thinking it sounds like crap and drive it there with Ugly Betty on there!

I also need to readjust my shift coupler - in fact, going out to do taht now... Been on my list of stuff to do before leaving for Porsch Palooza, and we leave in the morning!!!!!! Might be a long night, still need finish the exterior cleanup...

I listened to your UB muffler, and then others on youtube, then yours, then others. Went back and forth way more times than I care to admit too. I guess I'm just addicted to muffler music.

I really like the sound of yours. Just a little to the right of my idea of the perfect level of raspiness.

The Ugly Betty Muffler Meter:

metallic <--------------------+--UB----------------> low base tone

Overall it sounds great to me!

PS Feel free to keep the meter.

Sounds great. Maintains the classic 911 sound, but enough raspiness and loudness to show that you mean business.

I'm glad you are driving it to Palooza so we can get a listen. All this rhapsodizing about that great air cooled sound is going right past me..My stock muffler sounds worse than my VW, granted I am currently running antique ears, but I am ready to gut it or SOMETHIN.

Love the sound of your UB... Would like to hear it at about 5500 rpm.

Nice work!

Sounds pretty good, shane! I can smell that clutch from here, though.

You should use stainless steel wool as packing so it won't rust from the condensation. If your going to track the car I would dyno it compared to a stock muffler, not a big deal for the street. I've modified and built from scratch a few mufflers. You'd be surprised what can happen to the a/f thoughout the rev range. Just my .02
