Should I replace clutch?
Yes, I know, I have been wearing out this board! However, I really appreciate all the help I have received. Now for my new query. I have the engine and tranny separated. Pressure plate and flywheel look good. Friction disc has about 1mm material above the rivets. No sign of burning. Never having seen a new Porsche friction disc I don't know how worn the disc is. Clutch was holding strong when I put the car in the garage for my winter maintenance. Having pulled the engine once and seen how easy it is I don't mind doing it again. I'm already spending a small fortune, so I'm wondering if this project can be put on hold till next winter? Thanks guys (and gals if there are any on this board).

Kurt,
The spec book lists 8.1 mm +/- 0.4 mm as the new thickness, and 6.0 mm as the wear limit, so depending on just how much above that limit it is ... it could last another year, if it is worn evenly on both sides! ------------------ Warren Hall 1973 911S Targa |

The material on the new friction disk I installed last year stood barely above the tops of the rivets. The old one was probably not worn out. The friction disk and flywheel had gotten hot, obviously, due to the cable misadjustment which was keeping a little pressure on the release bearing.
The point is, it sounds like you've got clutch pieces I would be comfortable leaving in the car. ------------------ '83 SC |
