What's the best part of owning a Porsche?
Its the middle of Febuary and its raining so I thought I'd throw this question up.

I agree with the driving answer, but to be honest, Thanks to this BB I LOVE working on mine. It is almost as good as driving.
But I guess I am biased because I'm Canadian and I only get to drive mine half the year. I can't just ignore her for the winter ![]() Shawn |

Hmmm...knowing you're pushing the limit in your car because you can feel the tires sliding. And being completely in control.

Exit ramps!!! Woo Hoo!!!
Better yet, having someone tailing you into an exit ramp and only being a spec in the rear view after the exit ![]() The ultimate would be learning how to power slide the whole car through turns, like the RUF video clip from a while back. How about the kick in the ass in second and third, and fourth gear? How about being so low and in contact with the pavement you can almost feel your ass scraping?

Exit ramps are the BEST.....
especially when you see that yellow 30 mph sign....and push it a little harder around the corner.... now which is better? getting off the highway on an exit ramp or getting ON the highway on an on-ramp? Gettin on the on-ramp at 30 mph is a blast, knowing in about 3 seconds you'll be doing about 80, everything but a blur in the windshield... I still cant believe my car is from 1983 with almost 100K miles and performs as well as it does. It just gets better and better every day. ------------------ 83 sc euro cab |

Driving it. And I'm an on-ramp lover. There's a fun s-turn onramp in town. 2nd gear for the first, third for the second. WOO HOO. You know, I've never driven an car that 'sticks' like this one does during acceleration around a curve. it's just VERY hard to spin with your foot in it. This is where I feel my car has an edge. Exiting curves.
I really do like working on them too because I just like everything about them. I should have been driving one for two decades, instead of just 1.3 years. ------------------ '83 SC |

I like to enjoy (particularly) on ramps as well But I have seen the remains of a modified 930, after an on ramp affair getting somewhat disturbed by a stopped explorer...
BTW, anybody know the first year 911 turbo was imported to the US? (I think this was a non-US legal car) Ahmet ------------------ It's all the driver... |

For what it's worth, it seems to me that most Porsche crashes occur on the highway ramps by overzealous Porsche pilots on cold tires. This is just my personal observation.

Putting the pedal to the metal on the twisties. On-ramps, off-ramps. Hearing the engine, at idle & at full throttle.......

Driving it, looking at it - sheer thrill of owning it.
Nail the throttle on a bend and feel it squat and go! If I drove it more I'd lose my licence!! Turbo arrived US as Turbo Carrera in MY 76 Roy [This message has been edited by Roy M (edited 02-20-2001).] [This message has been edited by Roy M (edited 02-20-2001).] |
