Help identifying possible 911 S

Hello all,

I came accross a car recently here in South-Africa that claims to be a 1967 911

the car has been modified with turbo body kit, GT rear wing and different bumper and some really terrible door handles and mirrors. Otherwise all is ok, i will try and upload photos later.

I have engine and chassis (vin) no can anyone tell me more about this car. It has Webers, 2.0L motor, 5 speed dog leg gearbox.

Vin no is 300757 and engine no is 900856

Owner is NOT claiming car is anything special, how does one tell it is an S remembering exterior has been changed.

best regards

mark

Sounds more like a '65 car. '67 S would be VIN 305xxxS, engine #96xxxx.

Hello,

anything is possible as the cars were all imported here the date of registration which I think is 1967 is not always the date of manufacture.

The vin plate says type 911 S 66

Does this help?

What hp would this motor be?

regards

mark

All help gratefully appreciated.

The vin and engine number indicate a 1965 model year. The S model was not available until 1967.
Vin 300757 was manufactured before June 1965 with the first number being 300236. Engine 900856 should be a type 901/01. It is a 1991cc, basically a 2.0 litre with 130 hp @ 6100 rpm and 9.0:1 compression ratio. It originally came with Solex carbs.

Good luck.

Can't answer that question. The 1966 model year cars had a VIN that started in July 1965 production with number 830001 to 832090. Check to see if the tub is stamped in the boot near the smugglers box. I am not 100% sure if they did this on these early cars or not, but there are other production stampings on the chassis that would help narrow it down. What is the location of the vin plate you are reffering to?

Ok, looked it up - VIN 300757 should be a MY '66 with a 901/01 type engine (2l, 130 PS, Solex carbs). MY '66 started in 8/65, the switch to the 901/05 with Webers came in 2/66.

What does the S on the vin plate stand for, were they all shown as type 911 S 66?

That Heizinrichtung Typ 911~~S 66 refers to the heater. See this photo from 303918, a '66 Normal.

300757 I am guessing April 1965 as a '65 model year. Webers were added as a fix for problematic Solexes, well documented.

1965 911

John C., thanks for catching the heater ID.

The box on the left after the word "TYP" will have the model "911". (Only the 911S would have been "911S" in that box). That heater classification "~~S" has caught a lot of folks off guard over the years and I have seen more than one car up for sale directly after it's purchase when the buyer found out his "great S buy" was not what he thought. The worst offender was that guy that bolted on a 356 "S" to the rear lid and tried to pass it off as a 1965 911S prototype - all because that heater typ had a S (as in the photo above).

Mark, the good news is that this is a bonafide 1965 - if it had it's Soles carbs it would be eligible to get it's FIA racing papers in europe. Ask the guy's over there what the going price for a race eligible 1965 car goes for. (Just a tick more than a real S).

Bob

hello all,

thanks John C for clearing that up, as mentioned at least owner was not claiming car was anything special.

Bob, not sure what the car is worth over there or anywhere else in the world, as mentioned it has been refurbished although not original, I will try and post photos later and would be interested to see what everyone thinks it is worth.
